I don't know any escort, who likes the "window shopper" guys hanging around escort sims. Especially if those guys start wasteing their time and trying to get something for cheap or even free. Afterall, escorts want to make money.

But I believe after a while most escorts just become indifferent to the situation. They can't change it, so they just don't invest any energy into getting angry about it.

Did you ask them?

I have only encountered maybe 2 or 3 other Escorts who don't mind. And that was last night for the first time. I have discussed this issue with many others, and we are quite offended!!!

I tend to IM other Escorts (and not only clients). It's a fun way of networking and making friends in our segment of the community!!!

Some of us do it for the thrill we get out of being paid for sex, like myself (and maintaining myself purely on what I earn). Of course some of us do it purely for the $L. The common denominator IS $ though. And we really don't earn that much considering the effort required!!!. In slow times it's tedious and boring waiting. That's why I was so shocked!!!

When I think about it more, these girls weren't Escorts. They just wanted sex, and were roleplaying Escorting!!!

Of course!!! But I make $L inworld though. I may be pretending to be an Escort, but doing what I do still makes me a part of the RL porn industry because I can exchange my earnings into USD!!! It is just similar to phone sex. My (our) clients get their thrills by playing with themselves as we chat. A small number of my gf's do Escort in RL.

Unionize.

It's the most effective way that RL sex workers have found to protect their rights and stay safe.

It's an interesting question as to the status of a virtual escort. Is a student taking course online "not a real student"?

What she is, indisputably, is a "real" sex worker. Cam girls, phone sex workers, and a whole lot of people on Porn Hub count as that. If she's earning currency for sex, in some form or another, she's a sex worker.

Can you go for one day without posting about how you are an escort?  It really is getting to the point where it does feel like you are just advertising yourself on these boards.

I used to drive motorcycles in Second Life so one day i decided to drive one in RL.

Thats why we call it ROLE → PLAY .

Not a really very apt analogy, is it? And kind of reductive, no?

Being an escort in SL is going to be very unlike being one in RL, for all sorts of reasons -- not least of which are the hazards to which one might be exposed in RL.

But I wasn't suggesting that they were "the same thing." They clearly aren't, just as "sex" in RL is rather different, in all sorts of ways, from "sex" in SL. That doesn't mean that an SL escort isn't a sex worker. Unless you want to exclude from the term a whole very wide and increasingly important range of those who make a living from sex in other ways than by engaging in the physical act with other people, which I think would be an inaccurate use of the term.

It's Role play same way that when i put priest clothes on the avatar and get paid to get 2 avatars married doesn't make me a priest and doesnt make those people married.

Regarding those students who get online courses, yes those are students but only if their courses are from certified institutions by the state. Otherwise they are nothing.

There's no reason to make things complex.

By the same token, it's silly to make things too simplistic, and insist upon a reductive black-and-white characterization of things that are, actually, rather complicated. Some shades of grey might be a good thing.

I don't know why you keep insisting on this kind of simplistic equivalence. I've already said that SL sex, or being a virtual escort, is not the same as the RL things. In the same way, an SL marriage isn't the same as a RL one -- but there has to be something marriagy about it, or people wouldn't do it. Do you know no one who takes their SL partnership seriously? I do. Being partnered or married in SL produces emotional effects that are not exactly the same as the RL thing, but are at the least simulacra of them, and can sometimes be very close to them indeed.

In the same way, SL sex, whether from an escort or a partner, produces effects that are pretty darned close to the "real thing." I'm almost certain that SL escorts and prostitutes (and, of course, other lovers) are producing real, honest-to-gosh orgasms. Are those not "sex"?

You also didn't answer my question about sex workers engaged in cam sex, phone sex, porn videos, etc. What about strippers? Are they not sex workers too? Their work differs in degree, rather than in kind, from an escort who brings you to climax using text.

Your definitions seem awfully narrow.

Do you have a rate card? 99% of every Escort i have met in SL has one..

So, an escort has to be offended by someone who doesnt pay for sex?

Yes, i do have a notecard. We are offended by being asked for free sex when we are in an area dedicated to Escorting, or of the person knows what we are.

So, when i am approached in a shopping area (where i am) by an escort who is in the escort area (where i am NOT) and the conversation goes like this:

Her: Hey sweety, you looking for some company?
Me: Not really, I'm just shopping for an outfit.
Her: I can think of better ways to spend your money.
Me: Sorry, luv, i dont pay for SLex..
Her: Sputters and gets indignant. Well what are you doing on an Escort sim then?
Me: I thought i already established that?

Was I in the wrong? or was she? This is the problem with painting with that broad brush of all or nothing.. Not every escort is the same, just like not every male is looking for SLex. Or is willing to pay for it.

Hi Pearl

"Window shoppers" are part of the job.

In my experience there are different types of window shoppers. Some come because of curiosity, others to look at pretty girls, others like the idea of chatting with naughty girls and very few to tell you that they don't need our services because they are so irresistible anyway. The later just want to boost their own ego. Some even hope for a freebie and try to talk you into that. You will also have travelers who are curious about the sim as such - the build, the overall feel (not the girls).

No matter which type it is: We are in a service business. It is important to treat every guest or every region visitor in a way that he leaves the place with a good feeling about it. He might tell others about the experience (good or bad), hence might at least serve as promotor.

Don't feel offended. That's the way it is. Get used to it. Put your energy on making paying clients happy and build a loyal regular customer base.

Just my two cents.

Btw: We need to get your photos done 😉

Look i am simply going to answer a couple of things because there is no point in overanalyzing it.

Listening to me reading you the bible in a fake Second Life church that i made has the same effect as you going to the church and listening to a priest reading it. Doesn't make me a priest or a member of the clergy, actually i am an atheist and yes people pay for that stuff as well. Sure you can call me father from now on if you like i don't mind but i definitely am not. Bless you my child.

When you go to a clothing store, or any store really, do you always make a purchase?

Do you stop at every bakery or restaurant you pass to make a purchase when you feel the scent of the food?

Have you ever consulted a craftsman for something you wanted made or repaired, but didn't hire them?

I've apprenticed for a baker, a carpenter, and now I'm a bookbinder - do you know what the common thing throughout all those experiences has been? Dealing with customers sucks, dealing with potential customers is a bloody nightmare. They don't know what they want, so they ask questions, they browse, they demand time and attention, and then they walk off and never come back - it's why most business owners model their prices to accommodate the fact that a whole lot of the time you spend with people, you won't get paid. Some say that when you start a new business, expect a quarter of your time spent at work to be paid, productive time, and the rest to be dealing with people. You build up your clientele over time, and to do so you'll have to meet a whole lot of nasty people along the way.

To get 'offended' by people browsing though - I'm sorry but that's just the most snowflake thing I ever heard of.
