WhisperingPond Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Hi all, new guy here again. So when I buy something and rez it. I'm opening the container so I can copy its contents to my inventory. Now that I have the stuff in my inventory and want to use it, when I drag it out to my land, is that rezzing also? Or is rezzing just the original unpacking? I've been looking at all the things that go along with renting my property to others and giving them Rez permission was one of those things. So, if someone uses a sandbox to rez do they still need rez permissions to drag that stuff (that's been rezzed already) out of there inventory onto my property? Wow, that was a mouthful.

Rezzing is any time you are taking something from your inventory and placing it in world. Even the act of creating a prim block in build mode involves the block actually rezzing in world. 1
AdminGirl Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Hi WhisperingPond This is the definition of rezzing from wiki: Rez in Second Life means to create or to make an object appear. Rezzing an object/prim can be done by dragging it from a resident's inventory or by creating a new one via the edit window. So whenever you're dragging something from your inventory onto land, you are rezzing it. Different parcels have different rezzing permissions. So rezzing at a sandbox has nothing to do with rezzing anywhere else. If your friend has rezzed something at a sandbox, that item will appear at that sandbox. But if your friend wants that item to appear (i.e. rezzed) at your parcel, you will need to grant rezzing permissions to your friend for that item to be rezzed on your land. Hope that wasn't too confusing 2
Qie Niangao Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Technically, even attaching an object counts as "rezzing" because the simulator has to go through almost all the same stuff as it does when the object goes from inventory to freestanding in the sim. Scripts in the object get "on_rez" events, either way. Casually, though, I think "rezzing" is used almost exclusively for the non-attachment way of bringing objects into a sim. (Also, scripted objects can rez other objects from their own inventory. I think this is called "rezzing" in casual usage, too.)
Love Zhaoying Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 But, when is a Rez not a Rez? When it fails to Rez! 1

It's the same thing. Rez means to take an item out of inventory and put it in-world. That might be a box to unpack, or it might be a chair or a bed to furnish their home. Your tenants will need rez permissions and they'll need to keep those permissions for the entire duration of their stay. You can arrange this by adding them to a special "Tenant" role in your land group. Make a group role, call it "Tenant" and give them limited ability but include allowing them to rez objects. If they are renting apartments (several rentals in the same parcel) make sure the role does not have ability to make changes to the parcel such as changing the music stream or changing its name. If the rentals are each on their own separate parcel you can allow them to have these rights too. You can check how much Land Impact each tenant is using by looking at the "About Land" info in the Objects tab. At the bottom is a list of who has objects rezzed and how much LI they are using. If you're using a rental box system, this may also include a rez-counter to do the same thing and report it to a web-page that only you have access to.
Lindal Kidd Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 We stole the term "rez" from the movie Tron. In Second Life, rez has multiple meanings. Dragging an item from your inventory and making it appear in world. (This item can be a box containing other things, to be unpacked, or it can refer to anything else.) Creating a new item by making geometric primitive shapes ("prims") with the in-world building tools. ("First, rez a cube. Then drag it out and flatten it...") Assembling a complex build from a pre-loaded "rez box". ("Drag the house rezzer to the ground. Left click it for its menu, then select "rez" from the menu...") Describing the creation of temporary objects by a scripted item ("Thank you for purchasing my Fish Rezzer! Place it underwater, then click it to generate swimming fish.") Coming clearly into view for others, when you log in or arrive at a new location ("Your avatar hasn't rezzed for me yet"). The process of the world around you becoming clear when you log in or arrive at a new location ("Wait a minute, things haven't rezzed for me yet.") 2
Profaitchikenz Haiku Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) Another "Rez" See, I think SecondLife should play this when you rez an item, not the rushing sound they currently do. Edited July 20, 2020 by Profaitchikenz Haiku
oOJoselinOo Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Rez in Second Life means to create or to make an object appear. Rezzing an object/prim can be done by dragging it from a resident's inventory or by creating a new one via the edit window. The term "rezzing" can also be used for waiting for a texture or object to load, such as "Everything is still rezzing." or "Your shirt is still rezzing for me." Taken from the movie Tron's term "de-rezz", which roughly means to dissolve in a certain way. Temporary (on Rez) is an object state/parameter/property that will delete the object after a set period of time (varies; see link below for more info). Found that on google search ..... kind of funny but explains it good. like the others here 😃
Arduenn Schwartzman Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) I suspect 'rez' is an 80s slang version of 'resolve'. With the rise of home and personal computing tech, a lot of new words like these popped up in the early 80s. Resolve has a lot of meanings, so it could easily include 'the process of pulling data out of an asset server and bring the asset into existence in a virtual world by translating that data to their visible and audible counterparts onto the screen and speakers.' Re·solve | \ ri-ˈzälv , -ˈzȯlv also -ˈzäv or -ˈzȯv \ resolved; resolving - Transitive verb - 1a: to deal with successfully : clear up, resolve doubts, resolve a dispute b: to find an answer to c: to make clear or understandable d: to find a mathematical solution of e: to split up into two or more components especially in assigned directions resolve a vector 2: to reach a firm decision about, resolve to get more sleep, resolve disputed points in a text 3a: to declare or decide by a formal resolution and vote b: to change by resolution or formal vote the house resolved itself into a committee 4a: BREAK UP, SEPARATE, the prism resolved the light into a play of color, also : to change by disintegration b: to reduce by analysis, resolve the problem into simple elements c: to distinguish between or make independently visible adjacent parts of d: to separate (a racemic compound or mixture) into the two components 5: to make (something, such as one or more voice parts or the total musical harmony) progress from dissonance to consonance 6: to work out the resolution of (something, such as a play) 7: to cause resolution of (a pathological state) 8 (obsolete): DISSOLVE, MELT - Intransitive verb - 1: to become separated into component parts also : to become reduced by dissolving or analysis 2: to form a resolution : DETERMINE 3: CONSULT, DELIBERATE 4: to progress from dissonance to consonance - Resolve noun - 1: fixity of purpose : RESOLUTENESS 2: something that is resolved 3: a legal or official determination, especially : a formal resolution Example: "Your president rezzed some cans from his inventory onto the Resolute desk."
