I'd guess it could be some prim griefer attack around the time the "satellite images" were taken.

My own guess is, it's either stuff at different elevations, or parcels with different "statuses", or builds that have transparent prim tops. Just random guesses.

I got a message from one of the estate managers on an estate nearby reminding about the requirement to use autoreturn because of a griefer attack. Very likely all that purple is a snapshot of that as it was happening.

Whatever it is, I'm still seeing it on the minimap, so it wasn't only during the time the main map images were recorded.

It may well be. I remember after the big Blake Sea griefer incidents, the griefer objects showed up on the map for a day or two.

I have been seeing weird "new" things too in colors (not to mention shapes) and I've chalked it up to maybe updates in the viewer?

But now with all the discussions on map anomalies, here and other threads, I am left wondering, like everyone else.

I wonder what regions those are, if mainland, for instance, perhaps such things are markers related to the ongoing switharoo toward AWS.  Markers to assist in the mechanics of all that, things that need to be addressed first, or markers of relational values, whatever, when that process targets this area.  Etc.
