Hey everyone!

Just got a new computer, a cyberpower prebuild running the AMD Ryzen 5 processor and the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. Drivers are all up to date. I seem to be experiencing a pretty niche issue now though.

No matter the viewer (I've tried 3, SL, Phoenix, and Catznip), it opens to a white page. The cursor will change as it scrolls over input areas and such, and I can actually enter my information and log in, but my screen stays white and doesn't display anything. I've tried clean installs, allowing the programs past my firewall, Running on WiFi, ethernet; nothing seems to work.

Other games work just fine, this only seems to be an issue with SL Viewers, my buddies and I are pretty well stumped. Anyone got any ideas, heard of this, or dealt with it themselves?

When you say that your drivers are up to date, are you referring to the drivers that come with Windows, or the drivers that you need to download from the AMD website? Which version are your drivers at?

Asking this because this IS a known issue with ATI/AMD cards and usually caused by broken graphics drivers (like the ones that come with Windows)

The AMD drivers were already installed on the PC when I got it, but since then I've updated it to the latest version available from the website, 20.7.1.

Maybe a clean install of the AMD drivers? Or are there other graphics drivers that come default with Windows that I need to uninstall? Sorry if that seems like I dumb/rookie question, I'm borderline computer illiterate.

While I cannot be certain of this issue, I strongly suspect that your antivirus is preventing the operation of the viewers since all SL viewers open a number of ports to communicate with SL.  What I suggest you try is to "whitelist" ther installation folder of  a viewer you instal in your AV settings/exceptions.  I'd advise whitelisting all the .exe files related to SL as well and the viewer's cache folder.

Advice on how to do this is available on the Firestorm wiki, https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting

in firestorm

Ctrl+p

left side of screen graphics

top of tab general

uncheck Ambient Occlusion

click ok then reboot viewer and see what happens

and always remember when buying a new computer and you wanna play second life only nvidia

if this is a cause refrain from using the graphics presets in any viewer and toggle the settings manually and do not turn on any unsupported features like Ambient Occlusion etc

you can also work your way down that list where Ambient Occlusion is and uncheck the settings and rebooting viewer and finding the cause no idea for Advanced Lighting Model

Second Life is made exclusively for nvidia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL

Second Life has future plans for Vulkan which is exclusively nvidia again like open gl was

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)

I see mention of only nvidia and not amd?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_occlusion

searches only provide bandaids for other games with amd

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62563

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=amd+Ambient_occlusion&ia=web

try and refund the computer? or exchange it for another one?

all information is provided as is without warranty liability or support

for anyone with a AMD card reading, have a look at Lillith Hapmouche's post dated 18 February 2020 in this thread here.  Lilith provides a possible solution (one that worked for Lilith)
