Substituting the user's avatar with a "game appropriate" avatar might enhance the pure gaming experience of some SL users, and might thereby expand the SL user base into the demographic of those who for some reason lack for other choice of game. Honestly, I think casual gaming in a mobile version of SL is exactly equally practical.

But who knows what the new guys think? The game-centric view is very Rod-reminiscent, whereas M had a nasty case of Enterprise Envy, and Ebbe inherited the VR albatross. (Philip? I dunno. He seemed to see everything as "internet radio" one way or another, all through the prism of lazy libertarianism.) They were CEOs, not owners, but those CEOs sold those ideas to the board of investors directors, so it's kinda the same thing.

I think they'd only consider curtailing Adult content if it was necessary for some much bigger objective -- an objective that SL's current users might not value, however they feel about Adult content. That said, Adult content in Second Life is kind of disappointing. It had such promise, but... maybe human sexuality is overrated.

I don't feel that human sexuality can ever be overrated. it is a necessity for our survival. If anyone has ever fallen in love, which is likely very close to %100, they (we)  understand the insanity that goes along with it. SL adult content may not be all that amazing, but chat changes and enhances the experience. This is interactive, and we can have a sexual experience with a friend or a stranger. And it is much safer than RL when it comes to a stranger. SL is not pornhub, and would be disappointing to those who just wan't to see free porn. There is so much more here than that, but it requires an imagination, not simply hormones.

Or they might merge Tilia into one of Waterfield's financial service companies. Having Tilia owned by a bank would have certain advantages

agree.  From the Waterfield Fund pov this would have been a major consideration informing the acquisition I think. Whether it eventuates is uncertain, but I do think that Mr Waterfield has this in his thoughts

The 17 yo animation protocol needs a major rewrite. MMO's/virtual avatar makers/eroge that offer adult animations use IK's, rag dolls physics, dynamic bones and/or colliders.

SL has none of that.

They will start by requesting av child's to be banned; Adult content to be filtered and in the end all sort of censorship that will fit in their minds!

What a dreadful virtual platform that would become. I really hope LL and their future owners will keep the pace on Human rights, support of minorities and believing that sex is not evil, unlike those above!

Whom do you mean by those above?  If you're referring to people who posted in this topic then you're making an erroneous assumption.  Not all people who prefer not to encounter much of the Adult-rated world consider sex to be evil.  I certainly don't, though I am bored by its frequent appearance in the media, and I have no interest in participating in it or observing it in SL.  I have no problem at all with Adult activities existing in SL but I just wish they would all keep to appropriate locations.

and for some of us, evil sex is underrated. 😉

This is kinda related to my previous tongue-in-cheek "sex is overrated" comment; I wasn't so much complaining about the mechanics (although I'd welcome some animation upgrades, sure), nor claiming anything about the limits of role play, but more just griping about the market: in general, there's a lot of tedious uniformity among sex-associated products in SL. There are some exceptional creators, of course, and some inspired venues, too, but a tour of Zindra reveals that an awful lot of it is... redundant.

It's enough to drive me to kink!

SL is built upon a number of assumptions & principals that with hindsight have held the platform back and make it unattractive/cumbersome for developing certain types of experience

Yeah, I'm sorta struck by this observation; and some of the alternatives you suggest following it, while quite interesting, are simultaneously somewhat staggering.  It may be then, that what we have here in this Second Life thing, is a 1957 Cadillac -- i.e. something unique.  Oh, that smooth ride, the luxury and comfort of velour seating, not to mention that space-age swooping tail fin, soooo un-year-2020.  Is that really what we have?  Maybe so, and thus it could be -- no, it should be -- seen for what it is, a cultural artifact too good, too rare, too useful and still too worthy, to just throw away.  It needs to keep running in its marvelous and fun and addictive open-ended creative platform that is right there at your -- at anyone's -- fingertips.  It beat Sansar on this count.  It beats everyone else on this count. None can custom create the beauty with quite so much intricacy as at the ready hands of any player on Second Life.  Thus, the types and variety of creations that go on in SL -- have always been going on in SL -- are rather astounding.  And we all get to go around and land, plop into the middle of them.

So, this needs to fall into the correct hands, those who see it this way, and will preserve it, proudly display to the world in it's ever growing status as that One-of-a-Kind platform over there.  "Wow," says 5-year old Johnny, "I wanna grow up and go there!"

lol.. watch the cloud actually kill sl, because of all the issues it may cause.. not everything can run smoothly in the cloud.

Some might think that if "not running smoothly" could, on its own, kill SL, that would have happened years ago.

Well for some it may have. which is why there is a lot less people here now then there was years ago. Sl is not very intuitive and has a learning curve that can be frustrating to new players because it lacks many features that other mmo styled games have.

I wondered wtf that a Tilla crap was when I came back hehehehehe. Seems like The Lab is viewing the pandemic as a win. This sale seems to be a way for Mitch et al to get paid and LL to get down to the biness of fixing things around here. We'll see :)

I dunno.  Isn't the U.S. Dept of Defense on the the Amazon cloud now. Hah!  Now that says something.  The first line / last line of national defense is using Amazon cloud.  I mean, Amazon is bigger than SL's servers.  I guess Amazon is on it's way to becoming King of the Earth!  I suspect SL can run smoothly over there.  That is, if performance will still be an issue of attention up in the Corporate offices.  Casting a wide new net for increasing membership seems to suggest that service and dependability of systems, must follow.
