Actually...

All this says is you use SL way the heck too much... and your browser knows it, and has told Google Analytics.

So 'Teh Interwebz' has basically pointed a magnifying glass at you and said "we gotz us a live one over here boys, hit her with the ads"...

Advertising these days is basically targeted. If you see an ad online, it means the internet bots have decided that ad is a statement about you...

Just be glad that wasn't full of porn sites and 'singles in your area' ads...

Good day, all! Just jumping in to respond to a few of the comments... A few folks are speculating that this is the end of SL and nothing could be further from the truth. Any talk of dismantl

SECOND LIFE IS DEAD

Honestly, as much as I love Linden Lab and Second Life, I see this as a horrible, horrible thing, and personally feel that the "This is good news!" from LL is PR to keep residents happy in the meantim

Remember that virtual rent you forgot to pay on your parcel? Perhaps you forgot, the rental company sent you a real-world lease contract. This time you're not just getting your items returned to you. Now you get an actual real-world lawsuit, for potential loss assets to the rental company.

Good?
👉Second Sansar! 🤩😂
But what if the owners are up for a full coding rewrite to add all bells, whistles and 2020 functionality?
Which in no uncertain terms might lead to...
Bad?
Ingame/world DLC/Ads and other yukky stuff as @Livio Korobase quoting Dresdin Valerik mentioned above.

*thinking.. so in fact SL was the first to ever offer DLC via the marketplace? Is that true? 😵
Are we underestimating little old SL's position in this E world?
Might we see a graphically amazing action packed 3d Wirtual Vorld emerge from this hoo haa?

To Pussycat: I hadn't logged in for over two weeks prior to my 4 recent logins.
On a fresh install of everything using a new SSD. but yes.. they have my data.
Bloodlines x 10,000. 😖

We have been told that the Second Life advertising is indeed targeted, but that means don't sell it to somebody that already has it.  That's a big waste of advertising money.  Advertising companies that get that wrong are offensive, trying to sell GPUs and DRAM to me for months after I have purchased such from NewEgg WITHOUT searching around the Internet first.  I already know what I was needing.  THIS is why I use an ad blocker in my browser.  Most advertising companies are tremendous thieves, wasting their client's money and lying to them about it.  I do not want to be a part of that.

Maryanne seeing Second Life ads on a fresh install that knows nothing about her is not troubling.  Maryanne seeing Second Life ads, for the platform, not products sold within, after she has been using that installation for months or longer to read SL blogs, log in the secondlife dot com, etc, would be troubling.

YOU were assuming.  I was pointing out with facts why I think you are wrong.  Other people reading your comment might not know the history of Tillia since  it was much more behind the scenes until recently.  I answered you more for them than for you.

Thank you for saying the bolded parts. Wish you had said that to begin with. Less confusion that way.

Sorry about the typo there. I didn't intentionally type WE.

Have a good one!

I swear you know the right time to come in for everything, Brett. Also, I posited this to Ebbe on Twitter, but wanted to bring it up here - would it possible to have a 'meet the investors' Q&A thing of sorts on Youtube or something to learn more about the acquisition and other questions people might have? Would really help calm the tides as it were.

Edit:
You literally answered the question I asked. I need to read through a thread before responding - I'm looking forward to meeting them, then!

That's a great idea. I can't promise anything on timing as there is still a long regulatory review process that is underway, but we will discuss internally as this seems like a "no-brainer" and I think most of the community will like what they have to say. I would imagine we'll have one or both investors on "Lab Gab" or some other form of town hall.

Thank you! It was so confusing (some people quoted them and left the RL names out), I was going to run out of Pupcorn!

“Pupcorn” being produced in accordance with Euler rotation.

Interesting to see that Vanity Bonetto is taking a positive look on this change of ownership of Second Life. At 220 regions she does have a sizable investment in Second Life. I wonder what Anshe Chung's take on this is... she is the largest landowner is Second Life that I know of and has a massive stake in SL's future.

Oh lort.
My last job I had before I had to quit working could have easily been a stand-in for Dunder Mifflin.  Clueless, insensitive bosses who drummed up drama so they could all go outside & smoke to avoid you know, helping us.  Good times.

You were WARNED that vampire bonds had plummeted and that this would have a devastating impact on the SL economy. And your response was to laugh.

You were WARNED that a tycoon could easily masquerade as Donald Trump and buy up hundreds of sims and short the SL land market. And your response was to laugh.

Well, now your response will be to cry, as the lights go out at the Lab.

  • What is vampire bonds?
  • Who is masquerading as D.T. in SL?

Even better!   This is what I spent my mad money on this past week (besides more sequins for a project) along with lots of popcorn seasonings from kernel seasons.
I used it for the first time today.  So fun!

Not sure on the former, but I believe they're referring the land baron problem. While I don't have a problem with say, Luxory or the Chungs, I will say that companies like LIFE properties are a plague on SL.

I hope the lab gab or whatever it will be, will be announced well in advance (preferably here on forums or even an email) because I don't want to miss it!

I'm one of the worried ones, but hearing things from the horses mouth, will do a whole lot to stop the end of the world as we know it thoughts. Just the simple fact they'll be interacting with the community right away already makes me feel better.

This would explain why they have spent so many months trying to make second life appear more profitable. Such as closing down sansar and selling it off, the big statements about how good of a financial place second life is in at present. I just hope that this investment company does right by Second Life. It would sadden me a great deal to see the years of hard work that not only the Lindens have put into SL, but also the residents, be flushed down the toilet on the whims of a company that is only interested in one thing. I guess we will have to wait for the soon™ interview. As a precaution though I am now going to be backing up as much as I can outside of Second Life on a regular basis so I am at least somewhat prepared should it all go horribly wrong. At least then, should I choose to, I can move to open sim and take most of my creations with me.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not; the rank-and-file Blizzard gamer hates Activision with a passion, and BioWare has marfed its last few game outputs ostensibly because of being rushed by EA. So yeah, I'm guessing sarcasm lol.

I thought I was laying it on pretty thick, there.

Blizzard might be the closest comparison, because of the length of time their primary multi-user world has been running. But as far as I know, WOW shows no signs of slowing and still receives regular improvements.

"Improvements". There's a reason they stopped putting out subscriber numbers years ago.

The original was "tempest in a tea pot" but I suppose a tea cup is a sufficient substitute. 😁

Far more apt, actually.  This cup is much smaller than a pot.

At least it wasn't acquired by FB. That would've been horrible.

Considering what they did to their interface, btw.. I tried it previously the "New Facebook" and quickly changed it back, now apparently I am part of the "test" group who can NOT change it back to classic after FB decided to change mine to the new one after I previously turned it off. If you follow what I am saying..

Want to get rid of these ads? Quit using Chrome and anything Google. Try Firefox with a script and ad blocker and search with DuckDuck Go. Running SuperAntiSpyware also helps.  And never, ever sign into anything with a Google or FB or anything account. In fact, quit FB. (Sorry Marketing!)

Hmmmmmmmmm and wow, I dunno what to say except what I really want to say which is I hope the investors consider over-hauling Marketplace.  Marketplace needs more sub-categories such as rigged/unrigged; mesh/partial mesh/non-mesh/combination for some examples plus it's lacking categories like curly hair, Victorian, antique, dinnerware and others I cannot think of at the moment.

I'd also just like to send my best wishes.
