I have an Alt To get some time alone so I can,

-Build in peace

-Explore the grid as opposed to being limited by Routine

-Not get IMs from strangers who think models and DJs are call girls who don’t advertise well

-Visit other clubs and hear music that my social circle may not like

-Have “time away” when things just pile up.

Because not everyone is an hypersexual escort aka prostitute.

During my first SL tour-of-duty, I created a Sugar Mommy account to hold my CC information, Madelaine Marbach, and Snugs Eisenhart. Snugs was a male avi I'd put together to entice an old IRC/Messenger

There are a lot of reasons why some people make them. For one it might  be about playing as something totally different and you dont want that associated with your main account. Some people dont want

Can we fully change our AV to another one without losing the ability to revert back?

Absolutely, yes, I do this all the time. I do fairies, demons, angels, furries and my regular elf, all with this one account. I make extensive use of saved outfits for this purpose.

I also keep a handful of "base avatars" for my regular self, with different skins and different chest options (with Petite, with V-Tech and with neither). These are saved as outfits but without clothes, then clothing outfits are saved separately. So I "replace" with one of the naked base outfits and "add" one of the clothing outfits to it.

Somehow, by using an alt I was able to wear blonde hair because it wasn't me and I could experience SL in a different way.

That's so funny you say that! Every alt of mine has her own look/style and it wouldn't feel right changing or deviating too far away from that! Even though they're all me, they all got their own vibe if that makes sense? In a way each one allows a particular aspect of your personality to shine I suppose?

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it! Lol.

PS - I don't have a split personality disorder, I swear! At least that's what the voices in my head tell me. 🤪

Waves

I'm an alt, I'm being turned into the main account for one that's been around for about thirteen years.   I'll give you my reasons as to why I exist,  (edit) I won't really be actice until this avi is finished.

* Main was made during a abusive RL relationship, I came here to escape it. This alt was born about five years ago, and now the memories of why I made the main account and came back to SL has tainted the account in a way and has become a chore to into that account. So this is a fresh start for me.

* Gachas.  I used this account to store rare gacha items that I'd sell later once the event they came from ended.

* Exploration. I normally used this account to explore new sims to see if I wanted them to be my new hangouts on my main account.

* Self discovery.  I have a secondary facebook page for this exact reason, I want to see who I am without my family watching my account.  In this case it's friends who I use to know. Without family and long time friends watching, I feel free to be who want to be rather than who people expect me to be.

Having an alt isn't for everyone, I agree with this whole heartedly and that everyone has their reasons for doing that, some are super personal and others are for a mix of reasons.

Hopefully none of this gets taken the wrong way, reading tones through text is difficult.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I stopped using this account in 2018.

I have some alts.  I can do different things. You are an escort so of course an alt may not work for you.  You need to be recognized to make money.   My female alt is a stripper in a club.   I make a bit of money to get by and have fun

I have several alts because I wanted to try different looks, and changing Roy’s body just felt wrong. I think my desire to enter the 1920s Berlin project may have played a role as well

That's exactly the reason I have alts too. (About not changing my body, not visiting 1920s Berlin).

Aside from builders test dummies, and I guess RPers making characters for a specific role/reason, it all comes down mainly to privacy.

An alt is the mute button on your telephone, sure maybe you can ignore IMs that come in from friends and strangers, but sometimes it expeditious not to do so, so being on an alt, silences the telephone and lets you do whatever you are interested in, in relative peace.

You said you're an escort, so it's functionally a "closed" sign allowing you go simply hangout in peace.  your close friends might know your alt, but your clients won't.    We have our names over our heads and there is no functional way to separate a 'street name', from a 'true name' (in the SL sense), so we use alts to provide us that ability.   It doesn't take away your brand, it gives you more control over it.

That's my take at least.

This is why so many creators have alts as well.  One can't really relax and enjoy some peace and quiet in SL if you're constantly deluged with IMs and notecards from customers.  I think this would be even more important if you were in the 'service' industry in SL.

I don't fully understand why people make Alts. I have invested a lot of time and effort into my AV, and it's my "brand". I'm an Escort, so my AV is my marketing tool, and I need people to recognize me. I can see some nasty reasons to do so, but beyond that I don't get it!!! Thoughts anyone???

You dont say?

I dont have alts, aside from my clothing dummy for pictures. I just have thousands of avs. Some of them are very very much freaks. They have their own personalities as well. Or should i say i have a personality that fits the form? We all have many sides, I just like to let my darker ones out to play.
