Why do some creators make their mesh clothing non-rezzable?

I occasionally want to use mesh clothing as a prop. For example, I might say in chat, "/me kicks off her shoes," and then remove the shoes from my avatar and rez a pair nearby. Sometimes, I can't rez them because they are only wearable, not rezzable. I don't understand why a creator would care if I could rez them. Does anyone?

In my opinion, because of two main reasons: the LoDs are butchered and it would be clear when rezzing, or if they didn't butcher the LoDs the Land Impact would show all of its glory.

The things people do for 'security' in SL are very similar to the methods folks in Europe used to save themselves from the plague.

I would not be surprised if creators starting hiring furries to walk around their regions holding up a particle smoke emitter and chanting in Latin into voice coms... It might actually work better...

Any item not just clothes that has a self destruct script (llDie) can only be rezed in NO-Script areas and will remain there until you decide to remove them manually.

Same thing can be done to limited time demos etc.

In some way though the self destruct script does helps a lot when people who are not experienced with SL (or don't care) try to rez their clothes on other mess objects so the clothes go off screen and they think that nothing rezzed..  eventually due to clothes having a high land impact when rezed (by design) after a  few tries the parcel prim allowance becomes 0.

In other words they declare all customers as stupid. Same lame excuse as for the no mod stuff.

However, I think Optimo stated good reasons and a 3rd one is: they have no clue of SL and believe in fairy tales. 😎

Wanting to prevent noobs from littering is no excuse to massively inconvenience long-time users (never mind paying customers in general).

Newbies can eventually learn how to use SL. The people who have already been here for years won't be reduced back to "how 2 i rezz?? where mything go?"

I happen to be in the Land Rentals business for 5 years and i assure you there are plenty of "experienced" long term Second Life users who don't even know how to use FS Area Search to find their objects and clean their mess or do simple things like changing parcel music/enabling banlines/access lists/place a prim to rez their stuff on it when necessary and seriously they don't really have to know. It isn't obligatory to know Second Life stuff, it's just a game.

I am sure though the Clothing creators don't need to have/make an excuse for doing it, they just put their script and that's it.

Delete on rez is a very simple script to write. Much like a resizer script is.

This might all come down to some smooth marketing by a scripter - if I was less ethical I could have made a good amount of coin selling an under 10-line simple script to fools to 'protect your stuff against theft'...

default
{
    on_rez(integer start_param)
    {
        if(!llGetAttached()) llDie();
    }
}

- builders: are you one of the suckers that paid for that...

They can't tell.  They bought it no-mod!
