Do you still find that account in Search?

Try to open the person's profile.  You exist, for example:

yes he is still in search

Then the account is still alive.  That may still leave you wondering what else may be going on in his life, but you won't be able to get those answers unless you ask him. He may simply be out of town, or having computer problems. or he may have just decided to take a break from SL for a bit while attending to RL things that are more pressing.  Send a friendly note to find out, without seeming too nosy about it, and see what happens.
