Maybe it's how it works for you, @Bagnu, or in your club or establishment.

It's not how it worked for me or my escort friends, back when I gave it a short whirl.  And it's not the way it works for 99% of the other "escort clubs" I've visited.  In RL, "escort" is a euphemism for prostitute, used to skirt the law.  In SL, "escort" is the same, even though there are no laws to skirt.  Except, I guess, at your place, and that's fine too.

I often wonder how many of the ladies standing around - looking glamorous and sexy - are hookers. Am I being cynical, or what?

I was wondering if you were being hypocritical because out of marriage sex is just as much a sin?  Only married sex is allowed.

But, I doubt you would answer that.

I'm sorry, it isn't PMS that has me upset, I just don't like the question.  I think it's hypocritical.   I have never seen an avatar at a club in SL and wondered if they were a hooker or not - not ever.   You know with all the bickering and threads that get locked, this one bothers me a lot because I think it is hypocritical, such as "look at that sinner over there...well, it's not me because I am not a hooker".  This is what I am wondering if the OP is doing, judging others while thinking they are not a sinner.  Well, log in ye old eye first.

This thread angers me.  I hope it goes away.  It's too hypocritical.

Yep. Two problems with it.

1) Judging a woman as being "morally loose" because of what she wears, where she is standing, and how she looks

2) Denigrating sex workers as being somehow contemptible or immoral. One wonders whether the OP ever looks at a woman and tries to determine if she's a lawyer. Or a doctor. Or a teacher. Or a stay-at-home mum. I'm guessing not.

I'm not immoral as being an SL Escort, and my friends aren't either whether SL or RL Escorts!!!

Sex is a part of life.

I'm not saying you are, but that may be what the OP is insinuating.  See the definition of cynical (below)...as she states in her OP,  "am I being too cynical?"  I don't think you are immoral but she might.  Or, she doesn't know the meaning of the word cynical.  However, by the rest of her OP, I believe she knows what cynical means.  She is judging others from a moral viewpoint.  Bah to that!

CYNICAL
1) distrusting or disparaging the motives of others; like or characteristic of a cynic.

2) showing contempt for accepted standards of honesty or morality by one's actions, especially by actions that exploit the scruples of others.

3) bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic.

As an Escort, I DO dress to turn guys on! lol!!! But it works both ways...a handsome guy in a nice suit makes me crazy!!!

Sorry if I offended anyone by saying that, but I know that's the way it works, and I make $L this way.

3) If we assume for the sake of argument that there is indeed something morally contemptible about sex work, judging only the sex workers and not their clients. And unless you also study random avatars to decide whether you think they're customers seeking services, that's exactly what you're doing.

Side story. Dr Max Pemberton once found himself in the middle of a drama in which a woman had taken payment for sex upfront and immediately done a runner. The frustrated john was in hot pursuit demanding either the promised service or the money back, and claiming that he had the moral high ground because she was a liar and a thief. Dr Pemberton was of the opinion that attempting to buy sex from a very vulnerable and mentally ill woman who was struggling with drug addiction and homelessness was actually worse. I would agree.

We make it clear that we're Escorts. Just "hanging around" doesn't make $L. If anyone thinks a woman is looking to make $L, IM her and say "hi"!!!! In a minute or two you'll know!!!  Some places don't allow Escorting, so we go to be with friends and chat. Be polite and ask what she does in SL. Like I said, we WANT to tell you!!!

And that woman wasn't a real sex worker. She was a victim of her own body and circumstances!!! That could happen to any of us!!! A good guy friend of mine got drug addicted after a car accident from prescription drugs, and became a thief and homeless. Finally, he died. That woman's situation sounds similar. This is SL though. Here it's for fun to live out a fantasy.  Of course a few of my friends DO do this in RL, but they are certainly very intelligent, nice, and not desperate!!!

Well clearly not, but only because she had no intention of doing the work! I agree with Dr Pemberton who said that men who are prepared to buy sex from people like her deserve to lose their money.

Had she gone through with it, though, as many in her situation do, then of course she would have been a real sex worker. And this would not be the only occasion in which the art of SL really does not well imitate life. I've never seen an SL sex worker who didn't describe themselves as high class and whose fantasy experience didn't involve silk sheets, expensive hotels and all that. Nobody wants to be an impoverished, mentally ill homeless woman with a drug addiction, missing teeth and horrid, ugly clients. Funny, that.

Almost every person who hired me as an escort, was expecting sex for their money.
I can actually only remember one person who paid me to chat with him about sex.

Let's be realistic: Sl escorts are virtual prostitutes and there is nothing wrong with that.
In my country it is also legal and it is not against the TOS either.

To me it feels wrong to charge people money just to spend some time with them.
Stuff like going dancing, sailing, chatting and so on I do for free, always.

Happens in SL. But in the context of role play.

Can be fun though.

You remove teeth from your av and ask your partner to uglify himself?

We as Escorts charge for our time. If the guy doesn't want sex, that's his business, and he's not being cheated!!! And I've been paid $L 1000 for pure friendly non sexual  chat without  me asking for a single $L!!!

In a role play you actually create an outfit to fit the role. So do the other players.

I know. And I understand the "I'm so vulnerable, I must do this, I have no choice" fantasy scenario. Just noting that even in grittier roleplays, and certainly people actually looking to sell or buy pixel action, nobody is ever looking to recreate the reality of sex workers like the one Dr Pemberton described (ok, she wasn't actually doing sex work, but you know what I mean). People doing this kind of roleplay might wear ragged clothes, dirt on their faces or even syringe marks on occasion, but nobody I've seen ever knocks out a few teeth, leathers up their skin or creates bald patches on their scalp...or asks that their partner does the same.

This is ok. In SL, there's no doubt that it's all being done by choice and there's pretty much no chance of trafficking or exploitation. It's a fantasy. I just get a little antsy when it's discussed as if it's a fair comparison to RL sex work. I'm aware that there are people like Dr Brooke Magnanti (I've read her books), but there's also another industry that nobody wants to emulate.

What I do in SL is definitely nothing like RL sex work (I'm fully aware of that), and it IS a fantasy and erotic writing!!! Some guys can be verbally abusive though. And some are just "weird" in a bad way,  and have RL scared me!!! So there are some parallels oddly enough But it isn't a true comparison to RL  sex work.. These experiences make me understand how hard it must be IRL. I respect those who do this by choice. I am SO disgusted though by anyone who engages in human trafficking or exploitation!!!

Everything you’ve seen on TV is true.

We are all hookers. You are, too. There simply isn’t anything else to do in SL. Amiright?

Anyone can be brought, its just the price that varies.

I totally agree. It depends though on what it is though. There is not enough money in this world  that could make me hurt someone I love!!!
