So as we know in SL one can make many friends if they so like.A very LONG list in fact. Also one can now change their name. So lets open it up. Why ONE partner?  Shouldn't that be up to each to decide?  Exactly what is PARTNER? (The little box on one's front profile page). Well let's look at what LL has to say on this. There they state: Partnership is a vanity display for social purposes only. If one reads on in fact partnering does not give the partners anything EXCEPT one's name in one's profile partner box. So hey I say its time to up the vanity. I think there should be allowed MORE than one line in partner box. Now one may ask ...well how many lines?? (or partners for that matter).  More than one I would answer. After that I leave it up to LL to decide. Maybe have the box as a tab so when one clicks one can see : None or a list of partners. I say lets bring the vanity out this is the 21st century and besides I see this as revenue gain for LL.  it costs $10 L to partner and ...OH MY $25 L to dissolve! (not sure why that is) but maybe LL can do sliding scale EX: costs more to add more than one and of course keeping with LL dissolve policy MORE to get ride of that once cherished partner(s). So you VANITY people choose wisely your partner(s) or be prepared to pay the price. Come on people of SL let's get the VANITY display going. The floor is now open for discussion.

Why not just create a Pick tab and list all of your partners?

Some hang out or marry exclusively with a favorite/beloved friend (hence: PARTNER). Why would the Lab want to reformat the partner tab if a Pick tab could serve the same purpose?

That seems like a lot of work for something poly relationships already do. 
They make use of the tabs & plaster it on their main bio.  
Polygamy,  polyandry, thruples,  harems of alts...  
you can’t expect that the viewer layout be reworked to indulge you.  
Especially when a widely utilized alternative exists.

. . . but assuming that it's not as onerous a task as reintroducing last names, it would be maybe a nice thing to change? I'm not big on the whole harem/concubine scene, of course, but polyamory is a thing in RL. It might be nice to see it acknowledged here.

What a weird counter. Nothing in the OP demanded that we should know how many "partners" someone else has.

They were proposing an option for those who want to display more than one partner on their profile, for any purpose.

It's not a privacy issue because it's entirely voluntary.

Well, this is an important issue, so while I'm waiting for my sleep stuff to work (and don't even tell me to step away from the keyboard to promote sleep...geez you guys)...

I'm a little surprised at the gentle push-back this OP is getting. I haven't got a clue as to the difficulties it would cause LL to implement such a thing, but I'd bet there'd be lots of takers. Sure you can do it with profile picks, or nothing at all, as in just keep it to yourselves.I had a partner for years and it was nice to have that little box with his name in it. I don't know why, I never thought about it too much. It was just NICE, ok? geez... 😄 I'm sure lots of poly people would like to see multiple slots. As fast as two partners come and go in SL, from what I've witnessed with poly, it is even faster, so KA-CHING for LL. I'd say one to three, with maybe cost rising with each additional and keep the divorce the same for each.

I am too, actually. I have no idea how technically feasible this would be to do, but the logic being applied here -- that one can use picks or whatever instead -- could just as easily apply to a single partner. And yet, surely everyone agrees that it's at least nice to have that option. Certainly, it get used often enough. I'm honestly not sure why there is resistance, as gentle as you say it is, to affording the same privilege and pleasure to people who are poly.

My guess is that the 'technical part' would likely end up like the 'name changes' -- looks fairly simple to start with, but ultimately ends up being way more complicated and costing lots more time than originally expected.

 

I think there are currently JIRAs for this request. If enough people start 'watching' them and/or enter their own version of the request, maybe LL will take it into consideration.
