Afkgirl101
Hello everyone! As I logged onto SL this morning I realized I had a couple IM's from my patients. (SL doctor) Some patients are my friends and some are not. Ten seconds after I logged in, I crashed and when I logged back into SL, my messages were gone. Is there anyway I can retrieve old messages or find out who sent me messages? I did not even have the chance of seeing all the ones who sent me messages so I have no idea how to message these people back.
Lillith Hapmouche
Check your locally saved chat logs. You'll find the path to the folder in your viewer's preferences - in Firestorm, for example, check Preferences > Network & Files > Directories tab, then down at the bottom of that tab. You need to be logged in and then you'll also get a handy "Open" button to show the directory in your Windows Explorer. Now sort that folder by date and you'll see logs of all the latest dialogues.
Alwin Alcott
gone is often gone ( i'm not sure you set your IM's to be stored in the chatlogs.) .. it will still be a pain to find it when you do .. with many people you have a load of seperate files to check. To prevent this, set your preferences to forward IM to your email. It will also prevent capping. Edited May 27, 2020 by Alwin Alcott
Lillith Hapmouche
Local chat isn't saved to chatlogs by default. The forward to IM bit is useful for the future, indeed.
Gem Oxygen
You can also have your off-lines sent to your outside email, it will send you IMs of those who IM you, so you will have the name and the message at least and you can get back to them in-world. it wont show you note-cards. If you prefer NOT to give your active email, the one for rl important stuff to Second life, just make one up using Gmail or any other mail carrier of your choice for your SL avatar use.
