Now here's something one could do in SL. There's a small virtual world based on the novels of Jane Austin:

"Ever, Jane is an on-line role-playing game set in the virtual world of Regency England and the works of Jane Austen. Unlike many multi-player games, it’s not about kill or be killed but invite or be invited. Gossip is our weapon of choice. Instead of raids, we will have grand balls. Instead of dungeons, we will have dinner parties."

Could definitely do this in SL. Note the character stats.

LL once had a text-based game world based on the novels of Jane Austen. It wasn't successful as a standalone product. It's too small a niche. But as a theme for a sim, it could work. You can just see people obsessing over who sits next to whom at the dinner party. "We can't invite both Cordelia and Vanity; they're both after James". "Who does she think she is trying to sit next to him?" Something for the paragraph roleplayers.

This would be a great idea for an RP sim in SL!

It's not my thing, but there are certainly people into this in SL. There are forum posts "is there an RP sim that doesn't involve vampires" now and then. It would be interesting to see someone do this. Needs someone clever subtly running it from behind the scenes. It's partly plot driven, so the game moves the players forward. An invitation to a ball shows up in your inbox, and you have to find someone to go with. People will gossip about your choice of partner. And what you're wearing. And if you don't show up.

The user interface totally looks like an SL HUD. The buttons under the chat window, Shout, Say, Whisper, and Private, are exactly what SL has. Whoever made this has used Second Life. It's a good fit to what SL does well - good clothing, good places, and good chat. You might not even need to build a sim; just find a nice period town that's underutilized and rent some spaces.
