Question

Posted

I have always felt the "Delete" or "Discard" button was too close to the "Save" or "Close" buttons.  At times while possibly in a hurry I have hit that delete button instead of save or whatever else function I meant to do.  I feel that "Delete" button needs to be as far away from the other buttons as possible.  This may seem a bit frivolous to some, but how many times have YOU hit that delete button accidentally?....especially before you saved a note card for example?  In posting the suggestion I am in hopes of comments, of course, and the attention from Linden Lab!  Have a blessed day!

Oddly enough, I don't think I have ever hit that Delete button by accident.  "Oddly," because that's exactly the sort of thing I am likely to do in other situations.  I guess I have just been lucky.

If you have a suggestion like this that you really want Linden Lab to take seriously, the place to post it is in a JIRA report.  Lindens may look through these forums occasionally, but they don't take feature suggestions here.

I tried for several minutes to find where to post this.  No luck.  So, wanted to get it posted before I moved on.  I do see the Moderators step in many times to reply and assist here.  This post might be moved elsewhere, so that's fine with me too.  Thank you for suggesting the JIRA Report area.  When I get time I'll do that, too.

And, yep, I have accidentally hit that "delete" button too many times and had a moment of "dang!! frustration" LOL.  I design and I blog, so I am usually working a bit fast.

Deleted items simply go into the Trash, where you can always immediately go get them.  Additionally, unless you have disabled the applicable Notifications, the viewer will confirm Deletes.

In 13 years? Perhaps once or twice. Rarely enough that I can't be bothered to take a mental note of it.

I'm faster with the Del key during inventory sorting. 😇

I guess I should have added that I have Huntington's Chorea Disease and my hand will go to "twitch" mode often.  I have flung my avi across the sim, hit the delete button accidently and, yes, looked for it in the Trash Folder.  But there have been times I didn't realize I deleted it, thinking I just closed it.  I even did this yesterday.  Thanks for the replies!

I too have hit Delete by mistake, and I don't even have twitching awfuls to blame for it.

But my beef with the Delete button doesn't have to do with its placement; I just wish it would pick a spot and stay there!

Delete and Rename both have two locations. They're in one place in the context menu when you select them in the Inventory tab, and another place when you are in the Recent tab. And while we are at it, I can shift to an item in the main inventory tab from the "Worn" tab by choosing "Show in Main View", which is terribly convenient. But I cannot do the same when looking at something in the Recent tab.

Moar consistency, please!!!!
