Catwa Daniel is one of the most popular and widely supported for such things as beards, appliers etc. The main "good" heads all seem to be around the 5k mark but bear in mind you also need to factor in a skin from a designer that also supplies skins for the gianni body.

Be prepared to also spend a lot of time having to adjust your shape or the shape that comes with the head in order to achieve the look you want.

Get Inworld demos and test what you like, but it is correct, for Catwa there are most accessories, I personally use the Signature Bento Mesh Head from the Signature Inworld shop for my Signature Body (Gianni), but because you have to like it. Test the demos!

LeLutka is very "in" now. Skyler or is it Skylar? Is the most popular LeLutka head now.The latest events has skins for this head. Mancave, Access, The Mens Department, Anthem, Men and Women Jail....

You get the Slurls at www/seraphimsl.com

It would be best for you to go at the events, look at the skins and see what you really like. If you see a skin that looks well made, but it is not just what you had in mind, take a landmark to the mainstore and go there. Buy a head if you can get your perfect skin for it. The events can have skins priced down a bit. Also consider that you may need a body skin, to get the best possible match. How much that is included in body skins can vary. Freckles, hairy, no hair, happy trail, light hair... plus some even have a "tan mark", lighter skin where a pair of swimming trunks would be.

LeLutka may still have a "Stay at Home" sale. I have not seen them announce that it has ended. They reduced the price to 3990 until further notice. If this sale is still on, you have more money for a skin.

What skin are you currently wearing? Do you plan to change that as well?

There is no limit in terms of compability with the Gianni body, so you're free to choose based on your liking. The already mentioned Catwa or look at LeLutka. Personally, I also like Ga.eg heads, which got an update recently.

Grab the demos and test as much as you want.

Any male head will fit Gianni, but as Lillith said, it's more important to know what skin you want, because not all skins are compatible with all heads. If you're going Bakes on Mesh you can use any head but then you need to be sure that they provide bom/system layer skins, and that the skin will look good on your head. Some skins look best on certain heads but not others. So choose your skin and pick up demos of it, then pick up a bunch of demo heads, use them with the demo skins and see which one looks the best to you.

Yes, I second what @Maitimosays. I have tried layer/BOM skins on other heads than the ones they were made for, and the skins may look really strange. Eye-corners, nostrils, mouths... sometimes you can try to correct it with "fixers", but it is not as good as a skin made for that head.

When you have bought your head, you buy skins made for that head. You can be lucky and use other skins, but that is just that... luck.

It is no fast way to do it than looking around, get the demos of heads and skins and try them on. Especially when you are on a budget. You do not have enough money to buy a Bento head first, then another one. Not on a 7000 L budget.

All good advice posted above me, but I have one thing that needs to be added: there is a considerable difference between texture mapping on HD heads and non-HD heads. A skin that is intended for - let's say, Lelutka's non-HD 'Guy' head - may look not quite right on Lelutka's HD 'Skyler' head. You will find the brows may look much thinner than on the ad image, and other details around the eyes may not sit quite right. I say 'it may' because that's not always the case, but better safe than sorry because in many situations it will be the case.

Normally it's strongly suggested to buy a skin - be it in applier or BoM format - that's created for the head brand that you own. Obviously an applier intended for another brand simply won't work, but a BoM skin will because it's simply a system layer. But because of this difference between HD and non-HD texture mapping, it's now not enough to just look for a match to the head's brand; you also need to check for the head type.

So, if you choose a head brand that has both HD and non-HD options, pay especial attention to any skins that you purchase for it. Skins created for HD heads will state clearly on the ad that they are for that specific type of head. In Lelutka's case, this will either be the head's name (Skyler and Luka are the only male HD Lelutka heads at the moment) or the name of their HD head range (in Lelutka's case that will be Evolution, sometimes shortened to 'Evo'). An example - from Clef de Peau at this month's Man Cave:

c54c0b8dcdd234213f4be5290d1c514c.png

In that image, the skin is created for a combination of the two: head type (Evolution) and head name (Luka).

HD stand for High Definition and if you are using Advanced Lightning, you will see materials effects.

If you turn on "wet"under the skin tab, you see water drops on your skin. You can also choose youthful or mature, and various shine. For male heads, HD beard layer will make the beard look more real. And females, lips and eyeshadow.

I think HD is more for pictures and blogging, I do not use Advanced Lightning with shadows when I am out and around in SL.

So how much do you care about a glossy/shine/wet effect, and do you use Advanced Graphics in SL so you can see the effects? That is the questions.

The heads look great without Advanced Lightning turned on too. So if you like the look of a HD head, go ahead and buy it.

One more thing: Animations. Turn on facial expressions for the heads when you demo them. You pay a lot for the head with the expressions, so you should like them too.

I am biased, I prefer LeLutkas animations, even if I have more Catwa heads. It is expensive to buy heads often, so I am not changing them... not yet.

Especially the male animations look best on LeLutka, I think. But DEMO and see what you like.

The Catwa Freya head is still available for free on MP for a few more days. It works well with Signature since it is unisex and is an inexpensive way to test/learn things while you are trying to decide what is going to work best for you.
