Based off the title, i wanted to get different perspectives on this problematic trend. On several occasions while in a sim, some random dude will IM me claiming i'm a guy as if he figured it out. I'll respond to them saying i'm indeed a female, and born with female parts but they insist that i'm not. While I don't feel the need to prove my sex to some random person on the internet, I am however curious as to what about my avi screams "THAT'S A DUDE!!"

Is your av female? Thats good enough for me. I really dont care the gender of the person at the keyboard. I come to SL to escape from RL. If you want to be female, go for it. If you want to be male , same applies. Want to be a roaming gelatinous cube, I'm cool with that. Just enjoy SL and leave the idiots to be idiots. Block, mute and move along. Too many fools to start worrying about them all.

Do you have pictures of yourself? No matter how you look, I am sure someone does this to get you on voice or on camera... it is a power play. If they accuse 100 avatars, maybe it works on some.

this ^^ be who you are, who you want to be, dress as you want and don't fret it i have reached the point in my own SL now where I say yes to everything.  Are you a girl? yes. Are you a boy?

God, it drives me absolutely crazy when those kind show up. One reason why I don't voice. I mean, I absolutely hate voice. It drives my anxiety crazy. I can handle it, for  work and stuff like that (a

I've been asked a few times if I'm a guy just because I won't share certain bits of info about my life or because a friend I hangout with on SL is a male using a female avatar that also states on his profile he is male.

If someone says to me "You're a guy too."

I just say "No I'm not. I cut my dick off ages ago. I'm just kidding... I tuck it between my legs."

But in all seriousness. We don't need to prove ourselves to anyone. Be whoever you want to be and if you feel comfortable opening up in your own time then do it. But don't feel pressured by anyone.

Lol, i've had men on SL question both my gender and age due to how i speak and act! Which is funny and crazy since i literally have my Instagram linked in my profile on the RL part of my profile.. I guess people don't really read profiles before speaking to other people! It's always been men too, never women. I usually just let it go, you either believe me or not! that's up to you.

This may not be about your AVI but a lot of times if someone sees a female avatar with a description that says something like "Sorry guys, I'm only into girls", they immediately think that the user is a man. Reasoning is, of course, that all women only love men and that all the females on SL couldn't possibly be lesbians. 😀

I've played many female avatars on SL (as dancers and escorts...and did very well) and no one ever knew that I was a guy. I had a funny story once that while my avatar was "working" some guy called me a guy because I wouldn't voice or cam with him. Granted he was right, but it was only because I wouldn't show him that I wasn't a real girl.

One of my other avatars has a picture of a girl (from the waist down, lying on a bed) wearing a pair of panties. I have NEVER once had anyone accuse me of being a guy. Go figure.....😭

I think the guys who come on caring about voice and cam are using SL as a cheaper alternative to similar RL services!!!

Amusingly enough, I can relate to this story XD Wayyyy back in the day, my RL hubby made a female av to work as a stripper with me. We used to dance on the stage at the same time. He had more regulars than I did. Clearly a dude knows what a dude likes.. so his av was just overboard on everything and all the boys loved it :D The part that killed me was the time I was accused of being a guy playing a female av. The guy told me I should try harder and be like my husband's av if I wanted to be more convincing. We just sort of looked at each other across the room and burst out laughing. 🤣

It's OK you are whatever you are and you play your SL the way you like it, you got no obligation to explain anything to anyone and of course they are not being forced to interact with you either.

(as long as your actions DO NOT do physical/psychological damage to others)

There are some who take SL way too seriously and those who really don't care what the other person is BUT seriously come on now what matters in life is not what others want you to do and who they want you to be but what you want for yourself.

Life is simple.

This is an amusing problem if you’re somewhat vocally-impaired, but one with a simple solution;

”Don’t hang around with people who care about that.”

Mute/Derendering people who insist on being a pest about this is also useful.

SL makes it possible to *only* have to deal with whatever you’re willing to put up with, if you use the tools.

Note: This won’t completely stop a dedicated Stalker, so the trick is to rezz the mean ones out of your world before you get into a protracted argument with them and put them in Psycho Mode

With my male alt I had a funny story. He was just born and I strolled around a freebie place. A woman started talking to me. She was probably out there to help newbies. We talked briefly and I made sure she knew, I'm an alt and not a newbie. I thought I was super neutral, but suddenly she asked if I'm female. I should have asked what gave me away, I still have no idea.

People like that are not worth your time.  I have been accused of that a few times in the past.  My response to them is "If I am guy, then the PMS I have suffered is a very cruel joke...."

I've always been accused as male, even way back in the full sculpty days of SL.

When I first came here it was back when the teen grid existed, I left because I got grounded and my mom deleted my account and revoked my pc.

Yes.  Even then, I was accused of being a boy because of "how I acted" or "how I talked", it was usually over something dumb like I wouldn't date them or have naughties.

Now a days I get accused of being a guy because I refuse to have voice naughties.

I don't voice because trying to get my headset to function is a pain in the arse.

The thing with these people is it shouldn't even matter given what Second Life is. I've had dudes say things like: "You're not a real person if you play the opposite gender" and my logical sensors go heywire. These are just *****ing simps desperate to get a girl so they ask the million questions about this and that.

I openly admit I play both genders. If they got a problem with it they can sod off.

As for 'tells'? Well, speaking style, mannerisms I'd say, sometimes girls do like using emojis and what not so. At times it can be a easy tell for these lamers.

Basically anyone that wants to fool another resident about their sex can do it.

Want cam proof... how do you know they didn't have a friend stand in for the cam session?

Giving people a look at your face, picture or cam, allows them to use Internet facial recognition to get your RL name and location. So there is always the possibility of monovalent motivations.

If they think I'm male, OK. So I am male. What's your point? I know what I am. But, they'll never know for sure.

I'll just mess with them or ignore them. It doesn't take long to find a person's buttons. Once I do I can lean on it and totally annoy them. If they are male, I may tell them they likely female as they are so effeminate. There are numerous possibilities. Since they are asking about gender, they likely have gender or sex related issues. It won't be hard to trigger them.

Exactly and not only that but the guy can just get a girl roomie of his or whatever to talk on mic for a split second to 'confirm' he's a real girl (get the two in on it, it'd be lovely).  It's pathetic how some of these people act; so starved for sex and what not they'd go to such desperate lengths to get some real chick.

I don't care if the female is a male, at the end of the day you're getting your rocks off regardless. It's a win-win like that. But I guess they wanna hear the moans of a real girl or whatever... *Shrugs* just don't be desperate, take your time and most importantly don't be a cuck then they'll get the girl (er if they do, I mean anyone with enough sense would ignore em' but you get my point).

Really, who cares. I'm getting married in SL, and my partner could be either a man or woman in RL.  I simply don't care. It's the connection that counts. Although my perspective as a bisexual may not be the same as others.

Humm, I think I get what you're saying. I like to think there can be varying degrees of bisexual or gay or whatever. Such as, one could be more into girls in real life while in Second Life one could go eitherway. I know for me, when it comes to males I lean towards anthropomorphic men than I do human men more, while for females I can go every which way (though, if there is like a cute human femboy or something that is delicious).

Greatly depends like that.
