your correct for that is still there. which is still misleading because it doesnt really mean the person knows what they are talking about more than someone who has been on the forums less time.

I didn't ever take it to mean that the person knows what they are talking about, but in forums in general, there is usually some status/label that is achieved by the number of posts the person has made.  I don't give it any more significance than that.

Besides resident or advisor it used to be advanced member. if I remember correctly.

if you want to see who still has advisor go to this link advisors

That's a short list, and I recognise only about five of them. I really am out of the loop.

And some of them have very low reputation or post count. which could have been why some were removed. maybe LL is going to phase out that title over time. It really was a pointless tittle to begin with and was nothing more than an ego boost for some people.

you might not but some people new to online social media might. and not all forums have a reputation system or rank system. some dont use those at all.

I think you missed something. The folks ON that list still have ADVISOR tags.  Mine is no longer active and you can see my posts and ratings.  LOL.

Aside from most of the remaining advisors listed being from 2009 (at least three are later - I lost count) which means that they would have been around when ANSWERS was still a big deal in the old forums, I can't see much in common.  There are a lot of names there that I don't recognize either so perhaps they are no longer posting.

I just think someone should have said SOMETHING before making the change.

I can certainly see why they may have taken ME off. I have a tendency to ask some pointed and hard to answer questions that LL doesn't want to address.   I can live with that. BUT ChinRey is still in the advisor list and she has said OH SO MANY MORE negative things about The Powers That Be --- so that can't be it LOL.   A mystery for sure.

PS. I pretty much changed my tag as a joke. I am NOT heart-broken, just wondering about the process and the reasoning.

You don't know this one, but you do, because it's my alt. (Should say I am also Marigold Devin.) And up to now this alt is still apparently an Advisor, even though I hadn't logged in with it since about 2012!

Photo for posterity.

I dare say, next time I log in with it, the Advisor tag will have been changed.  How low those post counts are.

I do actually remember the reason I started using Echo Hermit to post for me; it was because in those old forums, some mardy arse grumbled about people posting just to get post counts, and I wanted to prove them wrong. I just enjoyed being part of the Answers section back then.

If anyone takes notice it seems that most that lost their title are those that have been active, most that still have it have not been very active except for a few.. Maybe they feel the few they left deserve it more than those that had it. Or it could have been completely a random experiment to see how people would react to it, which several here showed exactly how they would by flouncing over it. Which is sort of childish. No one is entitled to any title or rank her but what LL ultimately decided they get.

maybe the active ones got the boot because of recent posting styles or being too snarky, maybe the inactive ones didnt because they have not been on the forums in so long.

I always believed Second Life was nothing but a massive experiment into human behaviour anyway, the clue being in the title of the company that owns it - Linden Lab/Linden Research.

We are nowt but wee things under a microscope.

We don't always see I to I on everything, but frankly, no, I can't 'certainly see' why they took you off. You are knowledgeable about most everything SL, you're experienced, you know a great deal about building and mesh, and you're not afraid to share your knowledge. You should, by any reasonable account, still be an Advisor.

I still don't know what mechanism or what rationale was used to effectuate the changes that are under discussion in this thread.  However, I HAVE found that it is possible to get one's forum badge fixed.

I was very upset (irrationally, I'll admit) to have gotten "demoted" from Advisor to Resident, so I filed a Support Ticket.  It got escalated to a "specialist" to deal with, and I got helped by @Obi Linden.  Now I have my Advisor title back, so a big thank you for that, Obi!

I see from a random glance at several others' badges that this was not a universal roll back (e.g., Rolig and Chic are still "Residents").

So my suggestion at this point would be, if you'd like your old title back, file a Support Case.  (Apologies to Obi if this results in a flood of requests!)

I can already see his mailbox filling up. "Help me, Obi-Wan Linden, you're my only hope!" 😛

I used "Account Issue" as my ticket type, if I recall.  That should be available to Basic members.

I am pleased for you Lindal. You should be an Advisor, as should Chic, and Rolig. I'm sticking with my Resident badge though, as I can't advise anyone in any real effective way these days.

Yes, I did too but then you have to choose a subtopic and none (as usual) were close to what I was writing about :D.  I used web login.

There was a campground behind my grandfather's house, that had fallen into disuse as the young people that knew about, and used it, got busy with their adult lives.  Grandfather kept the campground groomed even though it wasn't being used.  Then, he had an idea.  He put a yellow light on a pole to see if it would attract attention.  After the light had been there for a couple of weeks, some young people started using the campground again.  I heard one of them remark that they thought the place their parents had camped was gone until they saw the light and investigated.  After a few years I noticed one weekend camping group seemed to be having an argument.  They were talking about that yellow light that Grandfather had placed on a pole and had kept burning all the time. Some thought the light should be some other color.  Some thought it should shut off at night so they could sleep better.  Others thought it should shut off during they day to save energy.  When Grandfather heard the arguing, he opened the circuit feeding the light, to see what happened.  That's when the real complaining began.  My how we laughed.  After a short while, he reclosed the circuit and we entered the circle of light and stood near the pole.  When one of the campers said something about the light, Grandfather welcomed them to his campground then asked them how they found it.  After this, nobody in this group complained about the yellow light on the pole that had guided them and welcomed them without attracting bugs.

Good job, LL, on making this personal and hurting feelings, instead of at least trying to pretend that the title was just something automatically given and a relict of the past which got elimated.  🙄

There is no indication that it was personal, or that they deliberately eliminated an outdated feature.  In Obi Linden's communication to me, he indicated that whatever happened was "inadvertent".

that is a common reply by a company that doesn't want to take responsibility for what happened and just pass it off as an accident or a glitch or a bug. it was done for a reason, they just cannot discuss that reason because of the added drama doing so might cause.

Noting that it has been over a week and while my support ticket was escalated on to "higher authorities" I haven't heard back and the ticket that I put in completely disappeared (or was never entered as I didn't look at the beginning) from my support list.  :D.  So it looks like Lindal was just lucky :D.  Alas.

OR maybe they plan to fix the whole issue for everyone --- that would be a plus.
