I would like to get a BOM mesh that has a bit of a tan.  However, many of the skins look kind of orange-ish to me.

I wanted to adjust my monitor screen but I could not figure it out for Windows 10.

So, it's a bit my monitor maybe but does anyone else have this problem with tanned types of skins where it looks kind of orange-ish?

I usually wear Deetalez Celtic which is pretty pale with pink undertones as that is my favorite type of skin - pale.

But, with Summer coming...I want something tanned.

So, I'm going to ask you your opinion...what are your favorite tanned skins for females where I can try demos?

(As far as the orange-ish color that appears on my monitor...it doesn't matter...I can still try the demos to see if they are less orange.)

I tried Deetalez Mixed tone but it's not my favorite and I've tried one other but seems too orange on my monitor.  So I need suggestions and help.

I'd like a good fit at the neck seam too.

My guess is that it is your Windlight (r) setting --- which is client side meaning that YOU see what you want to see and others see you as THEY WANT to see :. No way around that really even with the new EEP system. I am glad as I have my favorite settings.

So I suggest learning more about Windlight or EEP depending on your viewer and find a "skies" setting that doesn't have so much orange in it. Personally I have never been found of the default skies so if that is what you are using ---- well, that's kind of the answer :D.

Good luck

Yeah, I may need to adjust that too...but I wanted a suggestion for some other skins others may feel are not orange-ish so I can see if it's my monitor and it could be my lighting as well.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I have tried MANY skin brands over the years and have very rarely seen "orangish" :D.  Just saying.

Okay...well I was hoping to get a guide to go by...can you name one that might be your favorite so I can try it to see how I need to adjust monitor/lighting from there.

I don't think it's my windlight or sky...I just typed in Google Images:  Second Life Female Skins and most look orange-ish except for some of the lighter ones.  It may be my monitor then and I don't know how to adjust it.

But in these Google images, the skins look orange-ish to me:

I suggest trying some of your orangy skins and having a friend with a different monitor and who know Windlight (or EEP) take some photos and you can compare.  My skin is very old and no longer available so no help there. Sorry.  But as I say even my alts skins look just fine.

Here is my Flickr link so you can judge.    https://www.flickr.com/photos/24257589@N03/   There are tons of great screenshots of SL avatars. The only one that I have personally seen (here on the forums and on Flickr) are ones that look like natural default skies which IMO are pretty awful. I never use them.

Okay, I've been playing with the Windlight and it's still orange as in orange.   It will not change from orange under environmental sky setting at all and I tried many lightings or settings.  It's my monitor then but I will be trying demos and trying some photos asap and still trying to figure out how to set my monitors colors.  It's a big wide screen flat screen monitor but it's fairly old.

To test if it's your monitor, rez a prim, set texture to blank, fullbright, and colour mid-grey. Set your Windlight to Nam's Optimum skin and prim.

Does the prim look pure grey, or slightly brownish?  If it looks brownish, it's your monitor.

Another approach:

Make a screenshot of your screen wearing such an orange skin - either via SL tools, a screenshot tool or plain old PRINT key. Then make a photo of the output on your screen. That'll show if there is a difference between the rendered image and the one eventually shown on screen.

Have you tried this way of calibrating your colours: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-calibrate-your-pcs-monitor-windows-10 ?

Your graphic card's driver will also have options to adjust custom colours and colour temperature... that's actually my idea that your colour temperature might be set too high instead of neutral tomes. I don't find those pics in the image search overly tinted.

As for the problem:

Are you really willing to change your whole look just for the sake of a tan? Different face, different shading? That's what would come with a whole different skin by a another creator.

Have you tried a tan add-on, like this one?

It looks brownish and muddy, not grey at all.

Yes, once...but had no success as I found it very complicated...it is frankly complicated.  I am going to attempt to calibrate the colors again if at all possible today.  It's an old monitor large flat screen...kind of one of the first that became within an "affordable" range to buy....so I'd say about 12 years old but doesn't have too many problems other than orange.   When working with Ebay and some of the first digital photos to sell items, there were always problems with pinks sometimes looking orange...the digital process has improved greatly since then...but there are still times when pinks can turn orange digitally.   I didn't know there was a way to calibrate through my graphics chip?  I'll see what I can do.

I see what you’re saying about the warm/orange undertones. When you say you want tan, are you looking for a light tan for fair skin, a medium tan, or heavily tanned as if you’ve been outdoors all summer?

Well, I only tried one other demo last night and the only one that really looks good is the lightest, tone 00, but tone 00 is darker than the Celtic I am always in...so at least tone 00 is a bit darker and I kind of like it...but maybe a little darker than tone 00.  It was Y & S I tried last night who has tone 00.  I'd say a not too dark tan because my monitor is throwing anything much darker way off unless I find a work around to perhaps a more Caucasian darker skin than my Celtic rather going the "tan" route.

It does, then, sound like your monitor is at fault. If you're not able to re-calibrate it properly, it may be time to replace it.

Yes, it just might be time to replace it.  I'm going to attempt to calibrate it today and see if anything helps because otherwise, it's fine.  But, I am sure there are better flat screens since it was one of the first large flat screens to come out to be within an affordable range...so I am sure they have improved since this was made 12 years ago - although it is made pretty well that is for sure and has served me well.  It sounds like I need to add more blue into it if I can figure it out.

Monitor, cable, graphic card or plain settings... those can easily be the culprits.

But frankly, you can handle SL and its hassles, I don't really see why you shouldn't be able to deal with the controls on your monitor.

I hope so Lilith...I tried it once before.  I'm going to give it a good attempt today or tomorrow that is for sure.   I just need to be a little patient with the instructions on how to calibrate because it just seems complicated beyond my understanding...I was moving sliders when trying to calibrate...my fear was I could make it worse and without an undo like Photoshop has...I was scared I could really mess it up and ruin it.  But, if I take a few days and not rush it...it might have a good outcome.  Digital can change certain colors...but it has come a long way in 20 or so years.  I remember having to message people on Ebay "is this pink or orange" too many times.  lol   When digital first came out...you couldn't add any flash to pink or it would turn orange.  Digital has always had a kind of problem with the red scale area and light.  I always shot my pink items for photographs in natural daylight, never flash.

You haven't universially applied a Photoshop color setting, just by chance?

I don't know what that is but I could look it up.  As far as Photoshop, I like faded or muted colors best so I usually start with a beige texture before coloring it plus I am the experimental color type of person.  I hate primary colors.

Just about PINK in General:  It's interesting about pinks as they can so easily go to coral or peach with just the slightest tweek in Photoshop.  They sit near to one another.  I am very particular about my pinks as my favorite color is pink and wouldn't you know it pink can be the most difficult color to work within the digital format as pink/peach are right next to each other.  To achieve an antique pink, I need to add a little brown or beige.  Warming a pink too much, it's gonna go orange digitally.  I remember on Ebay, in the pioneer days of it's beginning, I'd often ask a seller to re-take the photograph *without* flash so I could see the actual color of pink.  Sellers used to do this all the time.  Once I could see the correct color, they made a sale.  It is the most difficult color to work with digitally as I said pink/peach right next to each other.

Wow, Izzie really have a solution for everything we need to tweak. I have some tattoos in my inventory that's named "Skin burners" and they turn you into someone who fell asleep in the tanning bed, they are so horrible. But these from Izzie look usable.

Yes, I saw that and just tried it...it's very nice and subtle.  However, it has a system layer which is a tattoo for the head only and an applier for the mesh bodies.  I don't see an actual skin looking icon to put a whole skin on for BOM.  Does it need a whole skin looking icon thing for BOM?  If it needs the whole skin for BOM...it may not be updated yet.  I am new to this whole BOM thing too.  It says in her add "includes system layers".

As far as my monitor...I do need to cool it somehow maybe by adding some blue?...so I'm going to try calibrating it now.  My monitor does need some fixing...no doubt in my mind...it's just too warm whatever the setting is for my monitor.

I did it!  I did it!  Adjusted my monitor!  Oh my gawwwwwwwwd...what a difference!  It's gorgeous...just gorgeous!  It was really worth the time and effort to adjust my monitor and the skins look honestly more on the brown scale rather than orange...and I mean just looking at the pictures on Google Images...the skins are more brown NOW than orange-ish...this is how I knew it had to be my monitor.  YAY!   It's just beautiful now.
