Raising prims, but falling off them

Hello

I am trying to put a platform up on my own land in the air and when I stand on the platform to raise it i just fall off and have to fly up and get it back. Is there a reason this keeps happening.. I read that's how you raise sky boxes but it does not work

SIT on it, don't STAND on it.  When you sit on an object, you have become one with it ("ommmmmm....."), so when it moves, you move.  Now, when it gets where you want it to be, you will want to stand up again.  Chances are pretty good that you will still fall off the thing up there, but you're close enough that flying up isn't much of a nuisance.
