I think it will be hard to tell what the reason is, as long as we do not know about your computer hardware.
Me, personal, I did not use SL Viewer since 2010, I am on Firestorm since that time.
Maybe you should check your viewer settings, they might be too high for your machine. Have you tried to play with them and see what happens at the lowest graphic settings?

Anyway, without having some data, nobody will be able to analyse the problem.

Just a wild guess, but this looks like the asset server is failing to fetch any textures, including avatar bakes, which is why your avatar is a cloud.

You may want to double-check that you haven't blocked anything SL related in your firewall. I can't think off the top of my head what specific steps you should take.

There is  also a viewer setting to disable textures, which might result to this, but I think it's unlikely you would have accidentally toggled it.

as you are able to log in to SL then your connection to the region server is ok

what seems to be not ok is your connection to the Second Life CDN (Content Delivery Network - textures and other assets) which is on a different server to the region server. What CDN server you are connected to depends on where you are in the world.  For example I usually get connected to a CDN server in Australia

in the first instance, if you haven't already, try logging in to another region.  If that is also grey then can look into what might be blocking your connection to the CDN

I am in South Africa.  Tried different regions and same result. I like to test my situation with SL connections/servers. I done it before but forgotten the drill. Any ideas please?

Still not good and all grey and not able to rez properly.  any suggestions please?

right-click Windows Start button. Click Run from the menu. In the Run box type: cmd.  This open the command prompt window

then type: netstat

gives list of attempts to establish a connection to an IP address using our computer ports.  For a connection the state messages are. TIME_WAIT, CLOSE_WAIT and ESTABLISHED

if for a connection you never get ESTABLISHED just TIME_WAIT and CLOSE_WAIT then the connection is wonky

more here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/netstat

then in the command prompt window to start troubleshooting then we use: tracert

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/tracert

edit add: if this doesn't work out then get wireshark

https://www.wireshark.org/

suggest you raise a Support ticket Leila

in the ticket say that you are in South Africa and you are able to log in to Second Life, but are not able to connect to the CDN from your country. Include a copy of the gray image you posted here. And ask Support if the CDN that serves your country is working

it may not be. And if so then Linden will get onto it

Can't get "support".  Also want to do a tracert.

Support from the Lab is available here: https://support.secondlife.com/

@Leila Refenoir To test your connection to SL and do a tracert refer to my article: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/

Your CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 is old. But, it has all the needed SSE extensions built in. SO, I think it is OK.

The driver for your 760 card is a little out of date,  436.30 vs 436.48... probably not a problem.

Try reducing your bandwidth setting from 3000 to 1500. That may help. Experiment with values down to 512.

You have packet loss (0.6%), which isn't good but I don't think it is bad enough to disconnect you or stop texture downloads. Try pressing Ctrl-Shift-1 (press gain to cancel) so you can watch your PING and Packet Loss in real time. Packet loss is high during and immediately after login. You usually see less loss as time goes on. However, bursts of packet loss will disconnect you. But, textures are delivered using HTTP with error correction. Packet loss is only going to slow the texture download not block it completely.

Keep this Viewer Stats panel open as you experiment with max bandwidth settings. See if a setting gives you less packet loss.

I saw CDN mentioned. That could be a problem. You can look in the viewer's texture cache to see if anything is downloading. Look here: C:\Users\[login_ID]\AppData\Local\[Viewer_name]\texturecache. You should see some cache controls files with some size.

If you look in the folders you should see lots of files.

What Nalates said. Your computer is not the newest at all and an awesome performance in ultra is out of reach. But your hadware should easily be able to allow you rendering everything at middle graphics. It is very close to the computer I used half a year ago, and it was all fine on "middle".

I hope you will get contact to the support and find a solution soon. Good luck!

I logged into the location posted in your computer specs and found it to be rather demanding in terms of rendering the environment.

Perhaps you would try logging into a water sim  region such as POOLEY or NORTHSKY CHANNEL where the demands are much lower...

Good luck!
