How to decrease bones in slink body

I am trying to upload a shirt to sl but I don't have the option to include skin weights. I read here 

that it's because the mesh is rigged to 155 bones, and it can only be rigged to 110. How do i decrease the number of bones the shirt is rigged to in order to include skin weights? Thank you so much.

I can only speak for Maya, but I'm sure any other 3d package would have the same type of operator. In Maya, you go to Skin menu, edit influences, remove unused influences.
