Banned for no reason from dating sim?

Question

So last night a friend and I went to a dating sim (won’t name names because forum rules but I think you can guess which one) to explore and check out who was hanging out. We both are simply chatting on voice with a guy that was also hanging out there when the owner comes up out of nowhere and harassed us. She claims that I was “using a voice morpher” when I have a naturally soft voice on mic and was extremely homophobic to my friend.

When I told her politely that I don’t use a voice morpher, this sim owner banned me on the spot. She banned my friend moments later after my friend tried to explain to her to and rightfully called her on her homophobic/transphobic ***** when the sim owner got upset because my friend is male on voice with a female avatar. The guy we were just chatting with? Also banned, for no reason other than he was just chatting casually with us.

Is there any way to report a sim owner for clear abuse of their power? Because this woman was straight up power tripping to the Nth degree.

No.  Their land.  They can ban you for no reason at all.  Attempting to fight back, however, can violate Second Life terms of service.  Being on the receiving end of such an action feels bad, I know.  But try to shrug it off and move on.

No, not really. The TOS (Sect. 3.4) says:

"You may permit or deny other users to access your Virtual Land on terms determined by you. Any agreement you make with other users relating to use or access to your Virtual Land must be consistent with the Agreements, and no such agreement can abrogate, nullify, void or modify the Agreements."

So, yes, the owner may be a jerk and outrageous, but as long as he isn't violating the TOS in some other way, he can make his own rules about who is allowed to be there.  He doesn't have to be consistent, and he doesn't have to tell you the rules.  He doesn't even have to have rules. It's his land and he can simply decide that he doesn't want you there -- quite a bit like RL, in fact.  The best thing you can do is move on and find a different place to hang out.

Technically she wasn't abusing her power. If its her land, she can ban whoever she wants or any reason or no reason at all. LL does not require landowners to be sensible, non-crazy or decent human beings.

I hope you and your friend can find a better place to visit.

All the others are correct, @ChibiDragon007.  It depends on the owner, really.  With my land, I want it to be as open as possible, but within reason.  I have to protect the experience for the larger group, which doesn't always lead to easy decisions.

The beauty of SecondLife is that you can control your experience, the bad part is others can too, for reasons you don't agree with.

Personally, I don't think anyone should be simply harassed because they are a man playing a woman or have a voice that for one reason or another doesn't appeal to someone else.

But, their house, their rules.

As a consumer, your best way of fighting back is to support a different dating sim or create your own experience for others where you have the control to do it "your way".
