1. For the last ten years display names have been the fix for sticking people with increasingly unusable usernames. To expect someone to make use of display names in world to get something reasonable and prohibit them from using the same name on the forums seems a bit crap.

2. Not everyone in the world uses the Latin alphabet. Allowing residents to use characters of their own language in their user name seems like the right thing to do. Especially since there are support forums in several of those languages.

But the first thing everyone thinks about is how the glamazons will invade the forum with their unicode bling and ruin everything.

And that somehow means that it will "confuse the boomers"?

Great correlation there.

It’s helped a lot, people don’t notice when someone changes their resident username to something that looks like a legacy username. They only complain when someone anything outside their 26 letter comfort zone in a display name that makes them think about it for two seconds.

No doubt the Lab can figure out a way to do this but it will have to be on Premium Double Plooooos and have a fee of $50 USD.

Yeah it's not written into the invision board that LL does not make, and Invision boards have no support for display names such as the like we see in SL.

Is that Arabic? Mandarin? Oh, I know... it's Farsi, isn't it? No, not that either? It's all Greek to me... except it isn't Greek. Pashtu?

It's a fact that not all Second Life users normally use the Roman alphabet. Just as it's a fact that not all Second Life users would consider a "last name" - a family name appended to and following a given name - to be the natural way to form a person's name in their culture.

People with 'tudes like yours are the reason life sucks so much. The worst part is, you don't even know what you are talking about. You've only convinced yourself you do.

Because she knows damn good and well that no one is talking about residents being able to use their native language when it happens to use a non-Latin alphabet and is trying to move the goal posts because she got called out on her ageist "okay, boomer" crap.

Thing is we already have a display name... right underneath your user name over there on the left. You just have to make 500 posts to be able to change it.
