What are you listening to?

Recommended Posts

These are technically videos, but I enjoy just listening to the dialogue while I explore SL. This is the beginning of my favourite series from the YouTuber Kitboga.

Kitboga is the alias of a scambaiter on YouTube and Twitch. Using voice changers and voice acting, Kitboga poses as different characters in the attempt to waste the time of phone scammers so that they won't target real victims. His videos are entertaining and educational at the same time!

Thanks to Maddy for reminding me about Leo Kottke's great music

It's my pleasure, Sis.

I enjoy Leo's droll storytelling as much as his beautiful music. One of my favorite story songs is "Husbandry", about a hardened woman and a skinflint who have to take a couple runs at each other before it sticks. Leo paints such a vivid picture with his usual mix of grit, wit, and pathos and humor.

She's sixty-one years old and hiding in a school bus
Kind of objectionable
With a heart like a fist

She stood on a street in Norfork in a pea-coat and a headache
watching the traffic splash by
When a four day cloud in a pick-up truck drove her out to the woods
Down a gravel lane, down a dirt road, down some dust on the grass
To a shadow, with some bricks around it

Near a pecan tree, near a boulder, near a dog, near invisible

He doffed his hat and scuffed his heel
And puffed real hard on his cheap cigar
And he spewed the smoke out in the air
And asked her if that was a wig on her head
Or was it real hair

He laughed real loud and said she was cute
And then he leaned over and said "excuse me"
And put the cigar out in the dog's face

"I live here" he said
He went inside

She turned around and walked past the dog
Back up the dust on the grass, past the pecan tree
Back up the dirt road, back up the gravel lane

And back to Norfolk

Back there at his place, late at night, when the owls congregate
And the snakes sleep, when the trucks hit the spacers in the overpass
And the storm drains cough up dust and cigarette filters
perched like frogs at the side of the road

Back there, down the gravel lane, down the dirt road
Down some dust on the grass, past the pecan tree to the shadow
With some bricks around it
Back there, late at night, back there in the dark
Back there in the dust, back there

The dog bursts into flame

Anyhow, time went by, anyhow snack crackers and stone soup
Walking on cornflakes and stopping clocks
Anyhow, she went back to where the dog blew up
She tried her luck, she went back, maybe she could paint the porch
Maybe she could fix the roof, maybe she could build a roof

She told him "you can't smoke cigars, though, I'm too damn frail"
And he said "I won't"

Then he lit a cigarette and dropped his hat
He said, "It's OK, I have a cat

This next one goes out to all those who seem so deeply committed to manifesting the hard-fraught wisdom of moderation and gatekeeping teams everywhere on this post-apocalyptic Internet, especially those who use such an objectively magisterial and one-size-fits-all defenestration of neurodiversity with such laissez faire approaches or "deep intuitive spiritual understandings" to how they should impose corporate will from a three-ring binder upon human beings and tribal culture, our twenty-first century cosmopolitan global society, and our present historical context in particular in order to better help insure that spiritual, cultural, and political liberal democratic freedom endures in this world.

The world would not, could not, be quite what it is today without the Linden moderators and the deliberated actions of the Linden Community Governance Team.

Hats off to the brightest stars on all the grid! Truly, you are the world's role-model these days with such forceful impassivity to the merits and causes.
