I don’t know about you, but since teleportation is the usual means of travel in Second Life, I often end up in a location without really knowing whether I am on part of the Mainland or on an isolated private Region.

This is a short tour I’ve put together as a bit of introduction to Second Life Geography. It is the Second Life version of “If it is Tuesday, this must be Belgium”.

I have tried to find a neutral teleport destination on each continent where you can stop, look around, and move on to the next site. For those who want to spend more time exploring I have added the slurl for the closest Pod Station. Continentsrevised.thumb.jpg.646dac290bd7bc2d422c61cc2f470f2c.jpg

I made an updated map of the Mainland showing Bellisseria.

Let's start with Corsica:

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Paneer/217/62/23

If you have Second Life installed the link will take you to the Explorer's Information Center in Paneer, Corsica. Inside the building you will find a variety of maps and information, including a map of Corsica showing the two main routes - Circuit La Corse, and Route 11. There are Explorer Information Centers on most continents.

Another spot to visit in Corsica is http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fishers%20Rest/33/67/23

One Corsica Pod Station is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Corfeld/247/62/71 - Yavascript Pod Station

 Gaeta 1 (The Unfinished Continent)

Lastness Marina and Lighthouse is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lastness/215/104/23

from there you can explore the Sandy Beach Trail, or try sailing around the shoreline.

There is a Gaeta 1 Pod Station at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Elten/12/149/29

Heterocera has many roads. This slurl will take you to a spot on the High Mountain Road just below Simple's Zoo. The High Mountain Road is excellent for travelling by horseback.

  Jeogeot

In Jeogeot The Lordshore Bridge spans several regions. There are underwater wrecks and a cave nearby.

Nautilus

Magellan crash-landed in Nautilus and his rocket is still there. You can sit in the cockpit and view his first surveillance photos.

First Generation Linden Premium Home Continents

There are actually four First Generation Linden Premium Home continents. Each continent has Meadowbrook, Tahoe, Shareta Osumai, and Elderglen housing communities and infohubs.  In this case we are only going to visit one location on one continent, but it is well worth exploring the rest on your own.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Shareta%20Osumai/138/171/89

There are no pod tours on any of the First or Second Generation Premium Home Continents

Sansara may be considered "The Mother Continent". Second Life started with a small cluster of 16 regions near Da Boom on March 13, 2002.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Da%20Boom/159/219/36

This will land you next to Caffe DaBoom.

One Sansar Pod Station is at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Durango/154/188/119

Satori has Asian-themed signposts, but a diverse Second Life population.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bagheera/59/125/57 This is the end of Route 8 in Bagheera.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//3/156/24 is the landmark for the Pod Station in Basilisk.

The Sharp Continent (Teen Second Life or TSL) used to be the place where teenagers were sent before they were old enough to venture on Mainland. There are many places to visit.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//3/156/24

There is a Pod Station at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//137/147/116

Zindra is away on the right side of the map. Linden Lab started it as a project to create a new continent specifically designed for Adult content.

PowerStationinZindra.thumb.jpg.6acf58567628c8c9734d0a5451ea7eb9.jpg

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pengallen%20Bridge/199/242/38 - From here you can take a free sailboat explore the river, head straight back and explore the interior of the power station under Pengallen Bridge, or just walk up to the top of the bridge and look at the statues.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bronlen/36/11/37

I have found most of the residents I've met there to be very friendly and helpful.

Bellisseria. This is the "Second Generation" Premium Linden Home Continent. It was first opened to residents in April 2019, and has been steadily adding land and structures. You can get more information at the Bellisseria Citizens Group Headquarters in Arghh or visit the forums. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Arrgh/145/124/27

I hope this post encourages someone to explore the Mainland.

Very nice. Especially the map with Bellissaria. So many maps in-world now need updating.

("Heterocera" is spelled wrong.)

I don't think LL ever thought Bellisseria would get that large that quick, shame they ended up destroying the long 2 sim wide canal that was going South to Jeogeot.
I really liked sailing it, because it wasn't very well known and the performance of those sims wasn't great, you could easily do the whole trip without finding anyone giving you a sense of isolation and long range sailing.

Other than that, exploring the mainland is like going on a fever dream, always crazy stuff to see, things that will make you thing what in the hell...

For the people that like to explore, here's a little something special:

The 1st prim.
First primitive created on private property, March 26, 2004 in Nova Albion.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Grignano/19/236/27

The 1st resident legacy.
Steller Sunshine, she built some of the first resident content in SL, including the Governor Linden's Mansion in Clementina.
Linked below is a giant climbable beanstalk she made.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Welsh/29/91/21

The 1st shop.
Aqua Avatar Central, it was the first store in Second Life.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Aqua/131/197/21

The 1st SIM, Da Boom.
The first sim to be added to the grid, marked as sim number 1 (sim1) Da Boom is a Mature rated sim on the continent of Sansara.

This was always the plan, the original SSP continent showed Bellisseria in its full size from day one. So when they started placing it, in smaller chunks, we always knew what its full size would be, the shape of it, and that those water sims were just place-holders.

The one odd thing is ho far separated the main continents are. Perhaps LL did it that way back in the day to leave room for future expansion (they were building continents like gangbusters back then). It would be awesome sauce if they would move those estate regions out of the way and then reposition the Easternmost continents closer to the Western ones, then add a water sim or two to connect the. That would be a major boon to the entire grid and the morale would go through the rook. At least temporarily until people started complaining about it all. LOL

I really do need to explore Second Life more. I'm not entirely sure if I've ever even been in the eastern lands. Everyone I've ever known lives in Sansara.

Well, or private estates.

Anyone knows why Zindra is that far away from the rest of the grid? Because of all the red lights?

The cynic in me says it's because they wanted to make sure that no matter how much they expanded either, Zindra and the "mainstream" areas would never touch, thus keeping all the pariahs out of sight and mind. It certainly felt that way when all of us with adult-oriented products in mainland-based businesses were required to relocate into the back of beyond, even those of us who had taken steps to neither impact the neighborhood nor be any kind of lewd eyesore to passers-by. (Yes, LL, it still rankles!) The relocation to Zindra was such a debacle because those of us that did try to keep it tasteful were crammed together with the neon-tawdry (when "picking your replacement parcels" you were doing it blind, you had no idea what was going to be built next to you, only that it would be "adult" in nature) and at least at first navigating Zindra was like condensing the worst regions of mainland into distilled lag-essence. Almost all of us suffered near-catastrophic drops in business volume for months. Navigating is not so bad now, but a great many skilled builders either decamped to private estates or closed up shop altogether, to usually be replaced with another neon knocking shop with land at insanely inflated prices. Back then we would point and laugh at the folks complaining about Bay City prices!

Thank you for that brief insight. Im almost 13 years in this world, but dont seem to know a lot about historical things like this.
I recently got myself a parcel at Zindra. While all the Homesteads i have been on suffered from heavy lag and bad performance, Zindra seems to be way better in terms of lag and fps.

The above five locations don't have a region name, so you can't teleport there by clicking the link.  For two it's obvious what it should say, but not the other three.  The Sharp continent one seems to be a duplicate of the Satori SLurl.

Also, you might want to darken "Bellisseria".

Thank you for the correction. I thought that I had tested all the links before posting, but I'll try again.
