Hi

I bought this Mole End -Nook hut- but i am unable to open it  in a Sandbox - i rezed it but i am not getting a Open option  and i am only seeing one orange box. Which is odd because i know there are more items and textures that go with this lovely hut.

What do i have to do here to open it in the Sandbox?

If you dont see an open option by rightclicking it, have you tried left click?
Probably it uncludes a script to rez the items, and a menu should pop up.

or the opposite... no scripted old packed in a prim, as OP mentiones nothing about clicking ... expecting a menu
right click/open

btw the only orange box i see on that pic is not rezzed but in the inventory.

Hi

I got it open but for same reason i had to go into that 'copy to inventory' pop up window :)

how about doing some tutorials about basic things? Opening a box is one of those.

it wasnt a dumb question, but looking at the starter tutorials will spare you a lot of time waiting for answers.

Don't be. Its a complicated game that really takes years to learn. You should be free to ask questions here without being knocked about by the smarties waiting to pounce. Please, carry right on !

@ProzacGummyBear I don't see the box rezzed yet, its just in your inventory. Left-click that orange box in the inventory and, keeping the mouse button held down, drag it out of the list onto the floor, and let go.

What happens next varies depending on what that box is. If it's the actual house, you're finished.

But it might just bea packaging box. In that case you need to right-click the box, select Open, and Copy to Inventory.

Then you go back to your inventory list and you'll find a new folder. Inside that folder is another orange object; now you can drag THAT one to the floor and that will be your house.

Definitely not a dumb question! And people here are delighted to help.

I actually really enjoy watching new residents posting questions here -- it gives me the opportunity to see them progress through their experience of SL.

And btw, older residents have tons of problems too. I've been here over 11 years, but you should see me fumbling my way through BOM and the Black Dragon viewer (don't ask).

I really enjoy watching new residents become empowered to discover the knowledge base, or video tutorials, where they can get most of their questions answered on their own without waiting for a forum answer.

That too! Although I really do enjoy watching the generosity of people when they jump in to help out. (Call out to @Resi Pfeffer@Alwin Alcott@rasterscan and @Matty Luminos!)

I really do not understand why LL itself does not do more to provide guidance, though. The Knowledge Base is not easy to find, and is very poorly laid-out and difficult to navigate. It is also not always up-to-date. A teeny-tiny percentage of new residents know enough to come here to ask questions -- it must be really tough for others to figure things out on their own. SL is complicated!

My favorites are those energetic and curious newbies who come here flailing, yet eager to learn and unafraid to share their failures. They remind me of my early days, when everything was magic. I live vicariously though them.

Regarding the Knowledge Base, it was once accessible to veteran residents (I forgot what qualified us), but was eventually closed because of abuse. I think one can petition LL for access, but few (including me) are motivated to do so. The result is stagnation.

Agree that LL should do more to showcase the KB, esp for new accounts. Which is why it is our job to introduce newcomers to the most efficient way to learn about SL.

No doubt you do your unfair share of helping residents learn the ropes of SL, especially with all those scripted items (kitchens).

You would think,  except my kitchens come with a HUD (ty Rolig) that connects to my kitchen website. ALL questions are answered there. If anyone asks a question about the kitchen it’s because they didn’t go to the website.

I've never found it easy to know when I should supply the information vs when I should refer them elsewhere, or how to do so without them ending up with hurt feelings because they think nobody wants to help them. So, usually I do a bit of both...I provide some answers and then suggest they discover more details in a wiki. Then, in closing I tell them to contact me if they have further questions.

* I totally agree that helping someone to find answers on their own rather than always depending on others is actually more helpful. It's disturbing to me how many I encounter who never thought of researching on their own, and makes me wonder if this is how they live all aspects of their lives!   :(

Hi! The description says: "It's a pretty straight-forward build, just rez it out".

That word "rez" means drag it from your inventory to the ground. 😀

Just do as @Matty Luminossays.

I like newbies who ask, and newbies who returns with more questions, and who updates the threads and tell how it worked is ❤️❤️❤️!
