Question

What can a person do if their account has been removed due to a bunch of bogus reports against them? There is a man on SL who I have known here for many years. He used to host a build contest and is a thoroughly decent, good guy. I just learned he has been banned and his account removed. The only reason given, multiple TOS violations. The only explanation he can come up with for this is that someone has it in for him, a stupid petty matter of jealousy regarding the person he was partnered with on SL. So, if this jealous, petty person enlisted the help of friends to submit false TOS reports against him, what will it take for him to get his account reactivated? If several people made false accusations, would it help if his many friends and acquaintances spoke on his behalf? And if so, who do they speak to?

LL will not take appeals from 3rd party's aka friends,  the person in question, if they are allowed to appeal in the first place, needs to open a support ticket through the sl website and take it from there.

But it seems they take the fake TOS reports seriously. Hardly seems fair, does it? All you gotta do if you don't like someone or get mad at them is get a few friends to trash them to LL?

you can start to argue here, but all you will get is you getting angrier because we, also just residents, will reply on the same level ... and for sure still not agree or being helpfull ( because we cán do nothing to help!).

We can really think we know someone very well, even if they live in the same house as us in real life, but in truth, we don't know everything about them.  As much as it seems unfair that your friend has been removed from Second Life after bogus reports against him, do bear in mind that Linden Lab have a lot more access to a lot more information than you do.

If you feel strongly that you want to support your friend, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you sending an email to offer them support, direct it to Linden Lab Head Office (the address is somewhere on the website). I've done that before, and whether or not it worked, a friend's account was reinstated, but I rather think it was because Linden Lab carried out their own investigations, while my friend's account was suspended, and the truth came out in the fullness of time.

And bear in mind, if your friend has not already done so, he will probably be able to create another account really very easily - plenty have. (Although I am, of course, not advising that your friend does this!)

Hey there LunaEnigma,

If you have a friend who has any questions or concerns regarding their account, they may submit an Abuse Appeal ticket so that the account may be reviewed. For privacy and security reasons, we cannot discuss with anyone aside from the account owner.

Please be aware that disciplinary action on an account (warnings, suspensions, termination) is only issued when we are able to confirm that a violation of the Terms of Service has taken place after a thorough investigation. We do not action based off of quantity of reports filed (such as people having all their friends report someone they don't like) or based off of false information.

Since this is not an appropriate topic for the forums I will be closing this thread.
