Question

Any window that needs to connect up to web services is appearing blank in the official SL Viewer for Linux. I looked at the guide to opening ports in my firewall and that doesn't seem to have done anything to change it.

There's another person who reported a similar problem in 2017. Can anyone confirm if the information on that thread is accurate and that this is a known problem? Seems odd that there would be a bug for over 2 years and nothing being done about it.

This doesn't seem to be exclusive to Linux viewers either. Here's someone with the same problem, and they posted a screenshot.

Here's my "About" stats...

@TogarUshindi that viewer is way old, it was released on November 17, 2017
LL has since stopped development of the Linux version of the official viewer quite a while ago, leaving that task to the Third Party Viewer (TPV) coders. Since that date, many new technologies have seen the light which are now unsupported by that ancient viewer.

As a fellow Linux user (I use Kubuntu), my recommendation is to get yourself a third party viewer. I use Firestorm, but you could try Singularity (I recommend the nightlies!) or one of the other ones from the Third Party Viewer directory which may tickle your fancy.

EDIT: I noticed that in your system info, it says:

  • J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.2
  • Audio Driver Version: Undefined
  • LLCEFLib/CEF Version: Undefined
  • LibVLC Version: Undefined
  • Voice Server Version: Vivox

The undefined parts seem a bit odd. The CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) libraries being undefined explain why you can't see anything web-related. For some reason it looks as if CEF fails to load on your machine. Have you tried rebooting yet? If so, was there any improvement? And have you tried a reinstall yet?

Anyway, here's my details from Firestorm, I took out the location details, because that's not really interesting at all. This allows you to compare your own details to mine 🙂
