Hey all! I am a newbie and yes you have probably seen me flying around looking at land. Maybe not. Second Life is a much larger world than it seems. But I do fly around sometimes looking at place to see where I want to live and spend my time. I took a Meadowbrook home and set it up but I was not happy there because the neighbor hood seems to be empty and I filled the home up way to fast. I didn't have that much furniture but the land impact was so much I had to take stuff out so I could change clothes. I, like most of you would love a Bellisseria home. I thought about living on a houseboat for a while until there are more Traditional homes available. I kept getting new locations and each time there was something wrong so I would turn it back in get another location only for there to be something wrong or for it to be the previous one they had given me; which I had turned back in already. Finally I ran out; and they shut me down for 24 hours.

This is what I found:
First of all; Each time I landed in the water. I came up and would never be sure which houseboat was mine. I assumed and I guess it was correct, that it was the one directly in front of me in the water. So, it kept sending me to these two locations. At one there was music, I am assuming left from the previous owner and I had no control over it so I turned the home back in. At the other one there was some kind of red script over it X's 3. Yes the red script was visible three times. Have any of you experienced this? Just curious.

For now I will remain homeless and wander. Hopefully I, as all of you will be able to get into our new homes soon.

Yeah, the houseboats do tend to land us in the water when we go to them after claiming one. You can change that (if you keep the parcel) by setting your own landmark there.

If you get a parcel you like but it has something going on with it such as the red script, I'd suggest contacting support. It usually is something that can be fixed pretty easily, and you don't have to give up a place you like that way.

I have noticed that the initial TP from the land page after claiming a houseboat does tend to put you in the water.  However, the parcel with your houseboat will have the name that you supplied when claiming the houseboat.  So, look at the parcel name up in the top area of the viewer and make sure it's the name you entered.  Once you get onto the houseboat you can either set a new landmark for that location, or even better, set it as your home location.  Then, when you come back, you won't end up in the water again.

Regarding the music, it most likely was a choice from a prior owner, but it is easy to change or clear - on the "About Land" pop-up box, there is a tab for 'Sound" and you can clear the entry that is currently in there for the stream.

Regarding the red scripts, you can use Live Chat to report that, and they can contact the appropriate support staff to resolve that.

Here are some links to some Knowledge Base articles that you will probably find helpful:

If the parcel reset properly, there should not be any left over stream defined.  If it is definitely a stream defined on your parcel, then notify Support, because they need to let the Moles know if the stream is not always resetting when someone abandons a parcel.  Depending on where you are when you hear the music, you could be hearing your neighbors' music.

If you tend to go to your parcel from that Dashboard link a lot, then just go to your options and set Telepoint Routing such that it drops you into the houseboat or just outside it.

Interesting.  I wasn't aware that the stream was supposed to be cleared on abandoning.  I've come across streams sill being defined, owner-supplied land parcel picture displaying in About Land, and the landing point coordinates still there.  More common in the old Linden Homes, but I've encountered this a few times in the New Linden homes as well.

I've seen this pretty often in the new homes, particularly with the music streams.

As you pointed out earlier, though, it's a trivial matter because the landowner can always set the stream herself. It doesn't need to be reset when it's abandoned.

That, however, is annoying.  Depending on how your neighbor is playing the music, your only solution may be to ask him please change it.

Interesting.  I was under the impression that all of that stuff was suppose to reset when a home was abandoned.

@Abnor Mole - Comment?  Should things on the parcel be resetting?  Some of that stuff could be very confusing to new folks.

The music was definitely on that parcel. I walked around and could not hear it elsewhere.  It is good to know that I can clear it should that happen again.

At my last home one of the neighbors had it full of pinball machines. I could hear them constantly, day and night. I had planned on getting my own sound but I ran out of prims/land capacity.

In a case of the neighbors sounds being heard on your parcel, you can ask the neighbor politely to check the box in About Land that will restrict their sounds to their parcel.

Many of those setting do NOT reset to a default when the parcel is abandoned.

Also, one thing many people are not aware of is if you have a "noisy neighbor" you definitely can ask them to check the box to restrict their sounds to their parcel, but you can also restrict your sounds to your parcel and achieve the same effect of not hearing their sounds. It the blocking effect works both ways, not just from your parcel but into your parcel as well.

I did not realise this! Awesome tip! Thank you ❤️
