Wireless Spacemouse Connection Trouble (Firestorm)

Hi - I'm trying everything I can find in this and other forums to get the SpaceNavigator to work in Firestorm (or SL Viewer) and getting nothing - no response at all - the thing works perfectly well in Blender and other programs. SL clearly knows it's there as it shows up in the configuration. Just no response at all. Yes, my computer is plugged into the mains, Enable Joystick is ticked, I've tried defaults and 4 different suggested suite of settings, I've removed the driver, I've shut down and restarted everything on each occasion. I'm on a MAC with all software up to date. Any suggestions on why I'm getting absolutely no response?  Many thanks in advance xx
