Do you think the new Cats movie will influence how Furries look in SL?

I see the faces and can kind of tell where they are doing their Hollywood magic to make people look like cats.. Some of the CGI or whatever it is they used is pretty noticeable to me on some of them.

I guess that throws me off some without ever seeing it..maybe seeing it I will not look at that so much and get lost in the story more..

As far as Furry goes,They look too human in the face I think for Furry..

I'm not a furry or an expert on them.. It just seems like they would want to be less human features than more..

Everything I've read has said that movie was horrible and was going to fail miserably... to the point where I've been reading articles claiming actors in it are trying to pretend it was a bad trip they don't recall being involved in... (well I'm exaggerating... but the critics read like folks are trying to distance themselves).

Has all that been wrong? Is it actually good?

This looks a lot like people in body stockings and makeup.  Was that the goal?  Was this meant to mimic the appearance of the Broadway musical?

I have seen a lot of Second Life avatars now.  Some already look like they came from the recent Cats movie.  I find that look unsettling.   The majority, however, seem to incorporate attachments to change some aspects of the body shape, especially the face, head and ears.

I parked myself in a place with about 18 various furry avatars standing around chatting.  One mentioned the movie Cats and a small number spoke up.  Three, I think.  None of those three liked the character designs they saw.  One mentioned "uncanny valley" effect.

I know that's a very small sampling of opinions but it's something.

The entirety of Cats is nothing but an acid trip dreamed nightmared up by ALW after reading some TS Eliot and it's creepy as hell from start to finish.

I'm talking about the original, not the movie. I can't bring myself to see it because seeing it on Broadway freaked me the eff out 30 years ago, and I say that as someone who loves cats and Taylor Swift.

I do not want to spend the next several months having fever dreams about my kitties ascending to the Heaviside Layer.

...shudders...

For my liking, the designs rather look like shaven rats than anything even remotely reminding of Cats, the Musical. They even managed to make me hate the typical London look less than I used to do. Not a single praise has been given by the reviews here so far, but the bad CGI effects (visible greenscreen and floating feet/paws) were pointed out. No way I'm dropping money on that crap.

Gimme me back my fluffy, cuddly Hamburg kitties! 😩

... THAT'S a Bombalurina. Not that creepy something played by Taylor Swift.

Oh don't even throw that shade at us Nekos or we're gonna be up in here having us a fight... :P

Beth called it I think with 'Acid Trip' and she should have gotten a mic drop there...

Hey, I view Nekos as "furry" myself ... They have Animal/Anthropomorphic traits of varied degrees that manifest externally.

gotta follow the scale

as far as i am concerned, neko has never really been furry, ears and a tail arent really the same thing

of course we do need to add an extra section onto this for the above mentioned "eldrich horror" category

To be somewhat serious in response to that ... There is no "scale" to "follow" though whoever made the one you pasted up there got a bit mixed up or a bit too pedantic. Using the feline example, the second and third categories up there are both Neko with the second through fifth all being examples of varied Demi-Humans (fourth and fifth having no classification) with the sixth and seventh being two variants of Anthromorph. The eighth is simply an animal, even if it has fantasy traits (such as telepathic or verbal communication and such) ...

The earlier image you posted showed very poorly done type five Demi-Humans.

Though to be less serious ... I'd agree that the way they approached it is a bit ... horrible and got a slight chuckle out of your last two posts.

I have a sort-of-furry avatar that's similar; not as weird-looking as the ones from CATS but this one uses a furry-type skin over a human head and body. It looks like a furry from a distance, and it's definitely more furry than neko, but doesn't really belong with either group.

Also, this is not a new thing. Remember Beauty and the Beast (the 80s TV series)?
