Does the SL standard viewer also have a option to search objects? In Firestorm there is the option Area Search to find objects. For example "gifts"

So far I have not found this option in the Standard SL Viewer. But maybe I have missed it?

On some moments it very welcome to have a list and a beacon to find the gift. During the advent gifts somen creators placed lots of gift but did not number it so it's difficult to find a new box.

Yes I can use Firestorm but would like  to do it in the standard viewer

Muy Bhad, I've been using it to track down things that got away from me when editing, I wondered why it was selective about what it located :)

The "About Land" window actually has an object list if you are the owner of the parcel/region, where you can see all objects of yourself and others, although its grouped and you can only select them all at once.

Yes, a bit messy, I do far prefer the Singularity object area search though, you can at least beacon individual things.

There is also a scripts info window on the about land parcel info that does give the vector to individual scripted object that is handy. From my recollection, it was Radegast first introduced the area search.

I've added an "Object List" to Black Dragon as well but i haven't yet found out how to resolve names of objects so they are all just the UUIDs of the prims/objects. I assume that resolving the name actually needs a request to the server, which if doing to the entire list of objects around sounds like a mini DDoS for each and every user using it which is why i've so far held off from doing something like that (that and the fact that area search is commonly used to cheat in games and events)

Area search does not exist in the SL viewer.

What others are describing here works only for pathfinding, which is limited to certain things, and apparently only your objects, and what is on the island menu if you own the island (if the objects are scripted or causing collisions).

But there is nothing inside the SL viewer that enables you to go to a store and search for the hidden hunt item, which, let's admit, you are mainly interested in looking for. Keep in mind that some owners therefore name the hunt gift something completely obscure, or number it. Or I think there is even a device that fools you by giving it the name of nearby things. But let's say you really are only looking for an advent gift.

For this, you need a third-party script like the free one put out by Xoph, which I think is really the best (his exploding lamb is also fun).

I have various other radars and scanners such as the one made by Dedric Mauriac who was a very innovative guy but no longer inworld.

So what that does is give you a list of scripted items and maybe that thing is in them -- often it has the distance you are from them.

There's this great thing called "Searchbert" you can use on land you own or have permission to rez on, I have it for free at the Flamingo Court garage in Grote in a flamingo form.

But what you need is really not provided by script or SL viewer because what you really need is "brain" and "eyeballs" and select "memory" or "pattern recognition".
