What happened to family communities?

I been trying to find an active place to maybe rent at and besides the ones I already know I couldn't find anything with enough active people. Did the linden homes "steal" the residents that like to live in communities? Did the whole 'family' trend die?

The things I was looking for in a community:

- Light role play, a place to live at rather than having a main story line and character application;
- Focus on text, I'm not really into voice;
- Realistic setting (no fantasy/humans only);
- With active residents;
- Consolidated (have been around for sometime or can be around for sometime and not closing out of nowhere);
- Not populated by bots.

I'm either using the wrong keywords or those places died. Any suggestions?

Actually I think you answered your own question as all the things you are looking for in a community are indeed part of that found in Bellisseria.

It's a proper community - far more so that one created in an RP sim. You can be in your home and decide to visit your friends and you actually travel there by road and sea. People have their own places which gives them a sense of ownership and therefore that means they stay around longer.

I'm not sure you are going to find a dedicated sim privately funded by someone that has near the diverse possibilities for RP that is guaranteed to still be there month after month.

I never saw any of my neighbors in Bellisseria or that extra 'emergency services' role play. I had someone messaging me once and it wasn't for very noble reasons. To me Bellisseria is a dead land since I first got a place there.

You have no green dots on your map @Sylvannas Zulamanย or do you mean you haven't seen anyone sailing / driving or walking past your home?

If it is the second and you still have your Belli home then it could be an idea to join some of the groups as you'll find out what's happening and get more sense of the community there.

Oh on the contrary there is a very active community within Bellisseria. Regular events are hosted and there are open houses - lots more.

Try joining one of the community groups likeย secondlife:///app/group/f7b0c9d9-ab6d-30d1-e37f-52b2bb132074/about Bellisseria Citizens

Granted, just like any community in RL there will not be people are all of time but there is always something going on somewhere.

In all honesty have I read a lot of stuff about Bellisseria groups, so I tend to avoid them.

I must have missed some drama! The groups have been very friendly from my perspective. Hopefully someone will be able to help you find a larger plot in a continuous role playing community.

Unfortunately a lot of them have closed. The best family sim I ever lived in was Pleasantville. It was made up of 3 sims (2 for rentals and communal areas and 1 totally dedicated to stores and Hardknock Elementary). You could live on the sim and have your parents drive you to school, it was pretty awesome.ย

As others have said though, time zones are a big problem. I'm SLT+8 while some are only SLT+3. You might only have 6-7 people online at the same time and of those 6-7 only 1-2 might be on sim.ย

The second problem and this is a pretty big one, is that community livingย  is expensive. My current rental on a private parcel (not RP community) offers me a rental rate of L$0.86 per prim. On RP sims you usually find the rate is something like L$1.8 - 2.0 per prim! RP sims can't compete with Linden Homes in this regard.ย

You could check out Willow Estates. It's a beautiful sim and has a lovely school and owners too. It still suffers from the problems raised above but is worth a try.ย

I've lived in Cedar Creek a few times and always enjoyed it. Tried a few other communities too, but Cedar Creek is my favorite of the ones still open. I think that Bellisseria just can't complete with the family RP communities. To me, Bellisseria just looks like a MASSIVE suburban area... It lacks a sense of physical community. It seems like nothing but homes as far as you can see. Sure, there's some community/public buildings/areas here and there, but they are few and far between. I always loved the downtown areas in family RP sims that you could drive to, get out and walk around shops, check out attractions, etc... Cedar Creek used to have a really neat old downtown area with low rise office buildings and shops. I was so sad when they remodeled the sim, although the new setup was still a nice pedestrian shopping area.

I also agree that it's just too expensive. That's why I'm not currently living in Cedar Creek (along with the fact that I wanted more freedom to build and design my own parcel outside their restrictions). I have an amazing roadside & sailable mainland parcel that is double the size/prims than my Cedar Creek lot, and still costs less per week. Hard to beat....ย

So you're looking for a residential, light roleplay type region?ย  There used to be a few but I don't think they still exist. One was called Ur if I recall correctly. I used to live there and the light medieval rp (humans only) was a lot of fun. Jousting was one of the things I used to do for fun. There were tournaments every week or two. Maybe look for something like that. Hopefully there are still some around.ย

ETA: There's a Mystvale that might do.

Quote

MYSTVALE is a medieval role-play, home to the White Rangers. Hold court, joust, ride forth into battle on the back of your trusted steed, or simply embrace the photogenic romance of living in an era long passed.

Here's a couple more I found on the destination guide:

ย

Neufreistadt

Neufreistadt is a charming medieval Bavarian village located on a cloudy mountaintop. Shop the Marketplatz (marketplace), stop in the Biergarten (Beergarden) or spend some quiet moments in the Kirche (church). The MoCa (Museum of Contemporary Art) is not to be missed.

ย

ย

Town Alvinawind

Welcome to Alvinawind a small town that you will enjoy. There is a little bit of everything in this little town. Hang out with your friends and have something to eat at the lovely diner. You can go to the hospital to get healed, or if you want to be pregnant and give birth. There are also some houses to rent on this peaceful region, with many role-playing opportunities.

ย

ย

Cedar Creek Township

Tucked within the mountains of Colorado sits the ever-bustling town of Cedar Creek, a family- and roleplay-friendly community in Second Life.

ย

ย

Mayfield 1950s

Mayfield is a 1950s town in California where you can enjoy the fun of living in a simpler time, with sock hops, drive-ins, diners, beatniks and so much more. You can also enjoy the natural beauty of the town and its many vintage period details. The town has scifi elements in its back story, a full set of caverns, and creativity is encouraged. Visit for some mid-century mayhem.

Ville de Coeur is a really beautiful place and the natives seem very friendly. I've been to several events there and have travelled around the villages on the local bus service. it has an active music scene that is aimed at old people (30+). It's set in modern France and I think RP is optional, English is the main language. As far as I know voice is only used at events by the performers. Recently I saw an advert there for RP police. It made it clear that the role wasn't the usual cops & robbers RP but more like finding lost sheep, helping old ladies cross the road and assisting confused tourists :)

There's lots more info on their website

  • 4 weeks later...

This might not be what you are looking for and I just started promoting it but I wanted something that wasn't expensive and for those that did want to RP.ย  Check it out.

  • Ever since coming to SL I've loved RPing on Urban sims. ย The problem is that hardly anyone actually RP's and just uses the sim to live. *at an exorbient amount for homes*. ย So I decided to start a small *tiny actually* RP sim on my own. ย It has all the elements of an 11 sim town in the space of 64x128.ย

Features include: Police, fire and medical. Apts w/rooftop pool and motel rooms for rent. Coffee bar and cafe. Dance club. Movie theaterl. Daycare, a Little red schoolhouse and kids play area. ย All the elements to RP. The ability to ride bikes or small cars around the sim w/ a parking lot to park free of charge with Apt rental. ย

Apts - $75/week, 50 prims
Motel - 1st floor $40/week, 25 prims *bathroom, kitchen included*
Motel 2nd & 3rd Floor $30/week, 25 prims

TP to location and send me a NC if interested. Can't wait to meet you!

Breezy Point 2, Plain Jane ย (88, 151, 56)

Disclaimer:ย  I am not experienced in Roleplaying and don't profess to be.ย  This is mainly for fun.ย  The only rules I have is to be friendly, respectful and PARTICIPATE.ย  You do not need to live on the sim or rent property to Roleplay here.ย ย

Well, stuff this Gen Xer in a gas tank and call me fossil fuel.

In fairness, 10 years is a long time in terms of musical styles. Someone who is 30 now probably grew up listening to some now largely forgotten artists.

Like Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

Clearly, you are not as conversant with all of the sports ball news as I am. As someone who knows all about the sports balls (and who reads @Seicher Rae's posts), I know, as you apparently don't (because if you like sports balls, they are clearly the wrong kind of sports balls), that Lopez and Shakira tore it up at this weekend's Super Sports Ball. Er, Superball. Um . . .

ย  ย I don't keep up much with sports. Like, at all. But I do know that 'Murrica ain't got no balls. 'Cause you play with a prolate spheroid. And it isn't played with your feet, but hands (see, I almost qualify as a sports expert!).

ย  ย Anyway I can't remember who Lopez is. I remember Shakira because of the wiggly-hips. My childhood music was more along the lines of this ...

ย

ย  ย ... Yeah, I liked Rammstein a lot. Still do!

What do you mean "you"? Huh? The NFL sports ball league doesn't have any Canadian teams: this is a Murrican thing!

(There is Canadian football, but it's somewhat different from American football, and not nearly as big. But to be fair, I suppose, a lot of Canadians do follow the NFL.)

I remember Shakira mostly because of her hair. And Lopez because of Ben Affleck.

There are no wiggly hips in this video. I don't see the appeal.

ย  ย I mean, one of their video releases was on Pornhub, as it was too explicit for YouTube. There's no shortage of wiggly stuff.ย
