Resize scripts

Recommended Posts

Using resize scripts is like trying to use a compass to draw a square, or using a ruler to draw a circle. Do creators really think people are dumb enough to not know how to use edit mode? I don't know about the rest of you but I can't stand even the tiniest clipping/gap on my attachments, so I only ever use manual editing on stuff. It's fine if creators leave stuff as modifiable and cram in these useless scripts (which I proceed to immediately delete anyways). It's annoying af when they put in these dumb scripts, then proceed to make the item no-mod, as if resize scripts is the answer to all problems and people shouldn't have the freedom to resize stuff they bought.

Something else I noticed is more and more stuff are becoming no-mod in SL, even stuff like hair and furniture, which used to be almost all modifiable. There's literally not a single hair store left that sells modifiable hair, which is especially annoying for non-rigged hair. I've also bought stuff like leash holders, cups, animals and collars that turned out to be no mod too... really?? Really sad and pathetic that creators think the average user is too dumb to know how to do simple things like edit size, tint or play with material settings.

That is NOT what making things no mod is all about at all.. no one thinks folks are too dumb to know how to use these things.   It IS about preserving the creators, creation from being totally messed up by folks messing with the material settings and the tints.  It takes a long time to create something in SL,  a lot of hours, work and attention to detail,  and they do not wanna see one of their creations made into some kind of hideous "thing"...  with their name on it.

Not everyone thinks like you, While i could quite easily faff around with edit mode i do appreciate the inclusion of a resize script if something needs a quick +/- 1% resize adjustment

I would never say no mod but including some kind of customisation options or not implies the end user is too dumb to know their way round edit mode if anything it makes it harder for the end user to make the product look like a shower of s**t which in turn reflects badly on the original creator

The amount of creativity, convenience, and marketability you kill by making your products no-modify far outweighs the few people who would "mangle" the product and still want to wear it.

The main thing I want to do is 1) remove scripts 2) put in my own scripts 3) make rigged mesh easily clickable by giving it a reasonably sized root prim 3) link rigged mesh together to reduce attachments 4) remove normals/specular or reduce the shine. There are more things but they're less frequent.

I don't think people look at an ugly avatar and check which creators made the things they're wearing just to memorize who to never buy from. Meanwhile if someone has a really cool avatar they've created, that person can share which products to buy and how to remake it. This only adds value to your products for people who might not otherwise buy it. The furry/anime community has been a really good example of this before the no-modify trend.

P.S. I'm using the general you, not you specifically.

Go inworld and take a look at how many of those stores still have modifiable hair. Everyone is hopping on the "let's make everything no-mod because people don't deserve to get creative with something they bought and needs to have their stuff jailed like an iPhone" bandwagon. I think of those only Exxess has modifiable hair now, but I'm not even sure about THAT because no one ever writes clearly what their permissions are and they just all of a sudden change it, like Truth, nasty surprise when I bought a hair and it's no longer modifiable despite having modifiable hair for the last 10+ years.

LOL.

Playing with material settings or size will turn a creation hideous? You're really self-contradictory there, because in other words you think people are too dumb to know how to play with material settings and tints, which in my opinion are even easier options to fiddle around with than size. Also, you think SL creations are something holy that shouldn't be touched or something? Oh yes I'm sure changing material shine from 50 to 60 will totally desecrate your holy creation into a blasphemous object. Since when did my necklace become the next Mona Lisa that can't be touched by mortals? 🙄

which Truth hair was that? So I don't buy it

at Shop and Hop Event, the xmas gifts from Mina and Sintiklia are mod.  Exxess I have a lot of their hair.  I also have Ayashi (Lorein) which is mod

it might be that I rarely buy single color anything and get the full-set packs.  I can tho understand why a merchant selling a single color hair (or a subset pack) from a full-set pack might set these to no-modify

  • All truth hair are now no-mod, check the notecard in the demo, it's probably also written in the guy's profile
  • All Ayashi hair are no mod though they used to be 1-2 years ago, it's written in huge font right on every single ad (NO MOD NO TRANS)
  • I bought a hair from Mina just a month ago, and it's no mod. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or not however
  • I'm pretty sure Sintiklia hair are no mod because it says so in the demo notecard, and probably the ad itself as well iirc

Now that we have resizer scripts that can handle X, Y, and Z separately from complex linksets, resizer scripts get the job done pretty well.

This is very true I agree.  The problem is getting hair creators to use them.  I have not got what I would call a large or strange shaped head, but I have had to pass on many hair styles I really liked because of course they were mesh and rigged and no mod... impossible to get a fit, impossible to even move the tiny bit that would be needed to fit.  I wonder if hair makers realize that having the product so fixed in size and position, with no way to alter the size or position is a loss of sales?  As I am sure I am not alone with this experience.. and I certainly am NOT going to change my head shape just to fit hair.  I know someone is going to say but your mesh head has alphas in the hud, to be used for this purpose... ummm no the alpha sections for the head will not work in the front at the hairline, they only work for back of the head.
