"Sandbox Colborne", which is a 4-sim premium adult sandbox, has object entry for anyone turned off.  You can't move an object across the sim boundaries. Any premium member can rez, though.

"Sandbox Pristina", which is a similar 4-sim sandbox, but general and non-premium, has object entry for anyone turned on, so you can move objects between the sims.

Someone once told me turning off object entry was to prevent some form of griefing, but if so, why is the non-premium sandbox not set up that way? Griefing is far more likely in a non-premium area. Is there some historical reason for this, or is it just an accident? If it's just an accident, I'll file a ticket.

(I noticed this testing my NPCs. They won't try to move into a parcel where they are not allowed, so, if rezzed in a parcel set up like Sandbox Colborne, they won't move at all.)

Maybe they wanted a test environment for items that need to behave sensibly with object entry turned off. Probably not, though, because there are plenty of those all over. Unless to test items that could "get away" and need the moat of void surrounding the test environment. More likely it was just a mistake.

If it was intentional, you're right, it's not obvious why the adult sandboxes should be the cluster chosen. Coincidentally, though, an unusual thing about Zindra: Most of its protected land is no-object-entry, in contrast to the rest of Mainland (and part of Kama City where somebody used to run Yavascript orbs). I was told that they specifically limited object entry on Zindra to discourage a specific resident from running her then-controversial autonomous vehicles on the then brand new continent. They kept object entry turned off on Horizons, too, and the Linden Homes continents including Bellisseria.

But I'm not sure about the logic of NPCs not working on parcels that don't allow object entry, even through they can't enter such parcels. It's a common enough parcel setting, so it might limit the NPCs' appeal if they required turning that off (assuming they're intended for eventual distribution).

Oh, the griefing. I'm no expert, but spread of self-replicating objects is one form of griefing that no-object-entry can be useful to control. That used to be a common problem on Mainland, with waves of the stuff washing across roads, rails, waterways, etc.

has been my experience that Object Entry gets disabled in the Linden sandboxes when there are outbreaks of an over abundance of rezzers.  Premium sandboxes do get this happening also from time to time.  On occasion Sandbox Linden has also disabled scripts in some sandboxes

after a time (and usually in response to a resident filing a support ticket/request) then the sandbox region is again re-enabled fully.  Suggest that you might put in a ticket to get Object Entry re-enabled for that sandbox

They tend to not go back and look at things once they're done with them... it might just be that no one has even noticed this about the old sandboxes...
