Does anyone know where I can get antique/victorian portraits (paintings)?

I've made a set of antique book cover prints over on the MP (first shot - frames are texture change to suit your wood) plus the one below is in my house have had for a long time from Noctis!

I noticed somewhere in a post thread, people asking for low LI mesh curtains. So here's some I found with information where I got them to help those looking, out. 😉

Lace Curtains single and doubles with open/close feature : 2-3 LI by Tess Spargel (Spargel & Shine Homes)

Here is a list over 21 public domain images. https://www.moma.co.uk/public-domain-images/#collections

Especially The Rijksmuseum has wonderful old paintings. I have also used Wikimedia Commons and Needpix.com

All you need is a frame, and upload your image and put it in. I am using this to get matching images out of one. And original art. Original as original in SL. The top image is one I have uploaded and placed in an Apple Fall frame.

The other images show colored arrows pointing at one freebie image I got from the marketplace, and one 25 L image. Both are .5 Li each, so they are good for linking to save Li.

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Freebie-Simple-Rounded-Frame/12168951

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/PictureJuan-de-arellano-A-Still-Life-of-Narcissi/17550762

Using a copy of the frames, I uploaded a gentleman for the oval frame and a still life for the other one and rotated it.

Trying to put together a list of shops for those looking for more "traditional"/antique furniture (ie, not Contemporary, Urban Rustic, Industrial, Modern or Mid-Century Modern). Some of these shops have furniture that fits into those  other categories as well as other pieces that are more traditional, and other shops in this list have mostly traditional or antique furniture. Note that there are some great stores that are not included on this list (Fancy Decor, Floorplan, Loft/Aria, etc.) because the great majority of their pieces fit into the Contemporary, Urban Rustic, Modern, etc. styles.

Good idea.  I have a fair amount of Victorian items in my store including kitchen and gazebo outdoor sets and steamer trunks and likely a bunch of things I don't remember being there LOL. Also some new Victorian botanical prints (a big set made for a friend). So come wander and see if there is enough for you.  And have a great time putting the list together.  You also might look at any steampunk shops as they often have Victorian things mixed in (or sometimes predominantly.

Oh - ChiC buildings in STRAND.

Who here is planning on buying all new furniture to fit the style of their new Victorian home when it comes out?  I usually prefer a more modern relaxed look for my furniture but I’m not sure if my existing furniture will fit well in a Victorian.

Here's how I'm looking at it. Bear in mind that I'm a clueless newbie. It's in the covenant that we can decorate the inside of our house any way at all that we like; only the outside needs to conform to a general theme.

So who's to say that my avatar isn't fresh out of college and poor? She inherited a refurbished Victorian in an old neighborhood, from her great-aunt. She moves in with her collegiate orange crate furniture and bean bag chairs. It's her house and her style, and she's not only not hurting anybody, maybe she's a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. Maybe she bikes around the neighborhood waving to the neighbors, and the stodgy old blue-hairs think she's cute as a button. Maybe as she earns more money and gets a bit better taste, she will begin buying nicer furniture, but it will still be in whatever style she chooses.

That's my RP way of justifying a mish-mash of styles. For those who are now thinking, "but I don't roleplay", I contend that everybody who is even considering buying period furniture to match the style of their house is roleplaying right now. :)

I'm enjoying the challenge of finding low cost, low prim (hopefully both) furnishings that, in my mind, can loosely fit into a Victorian theme. I've got some Queen Anne-ish, some Chesterfield-ish, side by side with a few distinctly modern things like picture frames and a steam punk clock. It all looks good to me. It's all pretty low detail and cheap, but it's a work in progress. I've got a porch swing that I love that I think looks distinctly American midwest or maybe Cape Cod-ish. It looks great with the house, no matter what period it's from. I also have a tie-dyed hippie flag flying from my cupola. VERY unusual for this neighborhood, but I dig it and it helps me find my house! LOL.

While I am still living up north I totally agree.

There were many  (both good and bad) outside the theme in the traditional areas. I sent in some ARs and friends did also (many friends) and they were still there until the peopled moved out LOL.  So unless you have a ultra modern building in the back yard I suspect you will be fine.   This outside.   Inside, as you say there ARE no rules -- well maybe bondage racks that can be seen though windows would be out (smurk).

One friend of mine with a new Belli pretty much furnished it in Apple Fall (during the 50 linden sale of course) along with some things she already had. I plopped down some plants for her and the toilet which never made it into her inventory but MAY be redeliverable (not sure if she checked on that yet) She added a lot of classic contemporary stuff (some holiday gifts) and she has a great look.  I made her some railings for the outside and some multi-framed prints for the inside and got off easy.

Another friend (a guy) chose the smallest house and is spending most of his land impact on the outside. He bought a couple of my outside things and some really great filler plants from TUFF (I need to go over and get them. Many styles in the pack for 40 lindens (INWORLD only)  but the rest of his decor is either from the resident pack of goodies OR free things (many new this holiday season). He found a very nice couch on the marketplace for free last night and while not really what he wants it works for now. His goal is to pretty much furnish the inside for free with maybe some 50 Linden Friday stuff for the big pieces.   So a game within a game within a game :D.

I don't see any reason that folks NEED to go out and buy all new Victorian furniture.  I lived in a Victorian in a downtown historic district for awhile.  My furniture was "eclectic" and definitely NOT Victorian. None of my neighbors had Victorian furniture in their Victorian houses either LOL.

BUT some folks want to be "period" and that is fine too.

Most of the items I used I already owned from Spargel & Shine.  She has a lot of nice period pieces, though the LI on some is mesh and low, some is a bit higher, so you have to comprise. I only purchased a few extra pieces to finish the look.  Its really all on your own style and taste, its what pleases the eye of the beholder or resident owner of that house.  I'm cammed a few around my neighborhood, seen a few places on the forums, in the Victorian homes.  I must say, it doesn't matter if your style is modern or period, I've seen some beautifully decorated homes. 🥰

My New Tower window sofa for the shelly.....in dark wood to match the woodwork. It has 6 animations each for 3 people. I love this piece..............

Hate to sound like some sort of forum monitor or snob here, but folks are not really supposed to be advertising their own creations all the time in the forums.

As it's been mentioned before, AF has great quality furniture that perfectly fit in the Victorians.

I'm also using What Next (mainly kitchen items), Dust Bunny (they have a great bathtub) and the items found in the cottages by Maya' Buildings; none of these stores are 100% Victorian (I wasn't looking for that style either), but they work really well for me.

Actually this piece is not on the market right now, none of my things are when I first post them here. I just finish something and I get very excited about it and want to show it to others I think will appreciate it too. Plus I'm exploring Blender and I'm proud of some of this work.

That's a pretty fine line you are drawing, I think. If the items are intended to go to the Marketplace, as yours usually (if not always) seem to do, then pre-advertising here is not all that different from advertising once they are listed, in my opinion. I think Lil's point is valid.

Getting back to the topic.

There are other furniture styles which will work equally as well . In fact, the exterior of the Hardy strikes me as Victorian Farmhouse, not the more embellished style we think of.  Think plain unadorned wood, hand made, even Shaker type. And Victorian straddled into the Craftsman era so that type of furniture is completely appropriate to mix in also.  Even Gothic will work.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go full out one style as it will wind up looking to "precious". Do you. Put your own personal style into your home. Mix it up, old and new.

Most people simply show their items in relation to an entire room or house.  Your photos often are of just the items that you made, sometimes showing the different colors it will be available in, and usually with comments about things like number of animations and such.  And the exact same photo with the same comments is often posted to more than one thread.  To me, it just sounds like an ad, so I commented such.

My revised list, with additions, in alphabetical order,  I don't really count places like Fancy Decor which might have some ornate brass beds and a few accent pieces, but are otherwise modern. Don't get me wrong, I love Fancy Decor, I just don't personally put it in the category of carrying antique/vintage style furniture.
