Election advice

This is a must-read for all UK residents. Britain is going to the polls today and Brexit may become a reality. In the next few hours, all UK residents should seriously consider converting all GBP - all life savings - to Linden Dollars on the Lindex.

If the pound sterling crashes tomorrow, at least your money will be safe and you will be able to convert it to US$. Please pass this message on to everyone you see inworld, and even ask non-SL residents to consider making an account and converting all their money into Linden Dollars.

You may not get this chance tomorrow!

Yeah, wouldn't it just be terrible if the politicians actually did what the people voted they should do? 🤔

   Swexit next, please!

The Monster Raving Loony Party candidates did at least bring a smile to my face. Doom-mongering doesn't, I'm afraid.

You're not being paid by some shady, foreign country source to post this, by any chance?

If we start censoring topics certain people don't like, where does it end? Who gets to decide what is allowed and what isn't (other than the Lindens, that is), and if we start that discussion, isn't that in and of itself sort of political?

Why the Linden Dollar and not one of the many RL currencies?

I asked this a while back and got crickets. Anything “political” or otherwise “sensitive” is off limits, arbitrary as that sounds, as soon as someone reports this, it’s gone.

I know a nice Nigerian Prince who is actually a White guy from Louisiana who is happy to hold onto your money for you in these trying times... (especially since Nigeria is a Republic so he needs a LOT of it to um... pay for those lawyers or something...)

Shucks, neither is Bitcoin.  If I were worried about my euros or pounds, I'd be buying those, or gold...not Linden Dollars.

Anyway Brexit... yeah... I give Europe one more generation till they're in a continent sized war again and this time it will be China that comes in to "save" them because we're too busy blowing our own system up over here in the USA this time around...

One of the lessons of the past... A large federal government designed with the intentional purpose of being incompetent might suck... but it's a whole lot better than the alternatives... Looks like both sides of the Northern Hemisphere have forgotten that of late...

At our house, we've been reading Will Durant's massive History of Civilization.  It's a cooperative effort, because I'll read some parts, get weary of history, then the Resident Geek will read some until he gets tired.  We share the best parts out loud.  The other day, he quoted a bit of Durant concerning the Holy Roman Empire.  They established a government that was stable for nearly a millenium...at the cost of massive, impenetrable bureaucracy.  The usual highlight of the evening news was yet another imperial assassination, the usual means of changing the titular figurehead.

Brussels is a piker.

:::waves hand::: me me me! I will. Gad that would be a hoot. Can I wield a ban hammer too? I don't want to do it in the context of LL. Noooo. That would mean I'd have to react responsibly. I don't want to react responsibly, but totally randomly. Pleeeeeeeease?

I mean. The Roman Empire lasted close to a millennium, depending on at what point one thinks it should be called an 'empire'. The Byzantine Empire lasted for eleven centuries, the Holy Roman Empire lasted for close to a millennium. Apart from various states trying to break free from the Soviets, and a few uprisings here and there, the only inter-European conflicts past the second world war, has been what - the Icelandic-British's three 'Cod Wars'? Russian aggression in Crimea and Georgia (which both arguably aren't technically 'in Europe').

Meanwhile, you're suggesting that a nation that has existed for 243 years, and has been in a state of war for 222 years, would have anything to teach us about not fighting each other? o.O

By Holy Roman empire do you mean Byzantine Empire?  The Holy Roman wasn't exactly stable - it just hung around for a long time as a convenient name - and I don't recall it having a giant bureaucracy (more a decentralized feudal arrangement), whereas we get the term for such a bureaucracy, "byzantine", from the Byzantine Empire's bureaucracy.

The US didn't save Europe.  It helped by coming in when it got attacked, and then reaped the benefit of years of our hard-won victories and terrible sacrifice; on top of which it was as rich as hell.  Then it charged us interest on its loans for - what, 60 years?  I'd have to look it up.  So take that and do unto yourself what you're trying to do to us.

Europeans have been in a constant state of unceasing war both internally and externally since the time of the Neanderthals with one exception: after 1945.

So yeah... maybe the US has also been in constant war since it got Europeans... but it's also had internal peace since the end of it's last genocide...
- and a lot of that peace has been for the same reason Europe now has peace... a large federal government body that has as it's primary goal, incompetence... Thwart the plans of any would-be faction and any attempts to divide out again and you keep the peace...

A lesson people all over the Northern Hemisphere are forgetting.

Inequality and injustice - which I suspect I know a LOT more about than you, is not the same as war. I'm not arguing the USA as a model... that should be very clear up there... I'm saying the EU is a lot better of an idea than a pack of countries all looking to shoot up each other's yards...

One thing I do know; gang violence and race violence... and when you break up into balkanized states... that's what you get... Look at the break up of... the Balkans... That's the rest of Europe's future; because it is ALL of Europe's past... and the only military that will be strong enough to take advantage of it this time will be China... which will just make it worse.

As a model, the EU was a vast improvement on the same concept as the US... fools want to throw that away and go back to shooting each other...

Thanks for immediately pulling the "I've had it worse than you" card in order to immediately stop any chance of an actual discussion.

Go ahead and lock it up now, mods.
