Hi everyone!

I have a few questions about texturing in SL, For now is about avatars. Decided to customize my avatar with my own textures (makeup, skin details, etc). Currently, I have a Genus Head/Legacy body combo. I have found templates and developers kit for my heads and bodies. However... Where do I get a lashes template? or, How that works? I see that I can add an applier texture for my lashes but I have not seen or figured out how the lashes texture is supposed to be laid out using a UV map.

Also, Are most skins and most lipsticks etc in SL a photoshop manipulated image? how are people getting these extreme realistic skins? (asking cuz all i do is draw and you can guess how it felt comparing texture quality). I have searched all over for tutorials and I have not seen a lashes tutorial on how to apply that method to modern heads and appliers.

As a matter of fact... most of the content for creating things in SL I have found is EXTREMELY outdated. I have been very thankful for the updated ones!

I will appreciate your help!

The template for the lashes should come with the head kit you have. You just paint or photosource your image over the eyelash UV.

That'll just run into your next topic. Skins and makeup are sometimes photosourced, but you can hand draw them too. The way all of that stuff is made really hasn't changed since those tutorials were made all those years ago. It just takes lots and lots of layers and experimentation until you get the effect that you want. It's possible that some programs may have changed with the times, but they are things you can do with PS and Gimp.

Thanks for responding!

So the lashes UV is that "comb" looking thing on the top right corner of the SL Robin UV map?

How about the lips? Genus and Catwa heads have HD lips now. In my head kit there are some UVs for  HD lipsticks (https://prnt.sc/q7kxme)

Whats the difference (in the process of making them) from regular lipstick to HD lipstick and how I can use that HD UV map to make my lipsticks HD? Noticed the UV is WAY bigger than the regular one (https://prnt.sc/q7kyz3) (https://prnt.sc/q7kz5n)

I really hate how sometimes when i draw very small details it looks smeared and unappealing.  :(

If you're doing something for a specific for a head, you'd probably want the specific UV. For example if you're doing eyelashes for Catwa you want to open the uv for the eyelashes and work from there. Your screenshot was way too tiny, but looks like you have the idea of using the UV. The eyelash UV should look like this:  https://gyazo.com/25719fc7006ec8cf031eef6bf2c3f05b It doesn't matter which head you're doing it for, I'm pretty sure they all have a separate UV for the eyelashes. The one for the SL UV isn't really going to help you because its for the system body.

As far as the HD lipstick, can't really help you out there. But I think you're onto something where the UV is bigger, which means its a higher resolution. That's probably what makes it "HD", so you just make the lipstick the regular way (Photosourcing or hand drawing), its just at a higher resolution thus "High Definition".

That's probably what makes it "HD",

It's also worth noting that you can upload 2048 textures, they will be shrunk into 1024 upon upload BUT the compression is better than what image editing software does, resulting in even more HD look
