Making SL more welcoming to males

While the other side has ample time and is typing up thesis response, this is what dear Scylla is doing:

Talks about gender issues to bait out the hard line misogynist and misandrist then try to drag people who are otherwise neutral into the war, Scylla, I would like to let you know humans do not separate into mere two categories and you are dehumanizing them by putting them into two categories.

Then after people who are neutral leave the conversation because they have things to do, work to go to, kids to look after you say 'ha I win they ran away'

Then when you run out valid points you will resolve to pick on grammar mistakes. Your strategy is to wait long enough for other side to leave.

You may think there is a gender war, like fringe members of the society thinking there is a 'race war'. Well there isn't. Stop trying to divide people.

I am waiting for the next stage where the extremists wait for me to leave before proclaiming victory.

No, dude. I didn't point out your grammar mistakes... and there was one. I seriously have no idea what you said by "good try with that no U."

This thread is making being isolated more and more appealing just when I was once again starting to think there might be hope for humanity. There isn't any. Not any more. I think I will be foregoing the life saving treatment I was about to undergo. I'd prefer not to watch humanity self destruct.

No thesis necessary when your entire post can be summed up in one word - bullsh*t.

Only sporadic. To see what the women will decide what men want in SL. Just to be aware :)

It’s three men acting like jackasses. I won’t give these dudes credit for destroying humanity.

I wasn't sure how to respond to this. Part of me wanted to ♥ but that's not quite right. Part wanted to :D nope that's not right either. How about nod and hand you an adult beverage while going to look a kitteh memes?

I quit arguing several threads ago.  Several avatars will tag team you.  In one wave, several different avatars disingenuously misconstrue your words into some point that you never made,  The next wave will disingenuously reiterate and amplify the misconstruction.   The third wave will denigrate you for holding an opinion you never held or even remotely hinted.  It’s like twitter where people pile on condemning a book they’ve never read.

Social media is all the same.

We all know, as do you, that everyone wants different things. In general, though, it’s a pretty safe assumption that women want to be treated as respected equals.

^ This is one type of gender assumption that's getting in the way of a thoughtful answer to the original post question.

As those are my words:

Gender trends are absolutely valid when talking about sweeping generalities that apply to demographics. If I'd tried to apply those assumptions to an individual, you'd be quite right to call me out on them... but I didn't. I was talking about half the population, and trends are the only vaguely valid way to deal with such a large group of people. As with all demographic trends, the existence of millions of exceptions to said trends does not invalidate them.

And I stand by my point. The kind of sandbox that SL offers is not something that both halves of the population are equally interested in. On a macro-level, men and women do not have identical interests (whether due to nature or nurture is irrelevant), and to pretend otherwise is just... delusional.

Yes. We can make sweeping generalities about gender, but how will doing do make SL more appealing to male players?

Maybe instead of generalizing about the other gender, we can have more people (in this case men) posting about what they want from SL?

Ooooooooh. I wonder if the nice man with the "no U" grunt was intimating that I'm an alt. An alt to someone who normally types with extra U's, like a... Canadian?

/me looks @Scylla Rhiadra The very same Scylla who very well will understand about alt pointing, accusations, and moi.  The same Scylla who is probably rolling over and laughing (as I am) about that possible meaning of the grunted utterance. I don't think I was ever accused of being your alt before, or vice versa, do you?  I have zero idea what he was on about, but I sincerely hope that this was it.

Good try with that no U. Lets wait for Scylla's thesis first.

I think, and I could be wrong, that what he was trying to say was something like, “Good try with that ‘no, you’ type of defense.”

There are grammatical mistakes that don’t really make a difference, and then there are the ones that make a sentence virtually indecipherable.

This was one of those.

Sigh...most men I have run into, not just those I know, aren't out looking for the next hole (and I actually run into a lot of men, apparently more than those who hang out at places where there are men...which I find odd..but I digress...). I don't think men, in general, actually are, and anecdotal evidence will never change my mind on that matter.  Hell just reading the forums through all of their incarnations over the years has given me ample evidence to suggest men don't really like being painted with a broad brush either.

Men are most definitely not the trophy holders on "just here for the sexors"...women, by far and large hold that trophy...by far and large. Part of that is the sheer number of women (again women avs, not necessarily women behind them) compared to men.

There are HOW many threads in the relationship forum, made by females, looking for males, or made by females, dominated by females, etc... all discussing sex, stripping, sugar daddies, how many men want them, how awesome of people they are, how great their services are, how.........? (I'm not judging, or knocking, I say you do you...I just don't sugarcoat this truth). Women, absolutely dominate this field, men haven't got a chance, lol.

Yeah, let's not pretend there aren't women (female avs, again) in sl that are out looking to hit on every male av they can find-especially when those male avs are visually appealing to them. Or looking to take someone home, or dancing, escorting, etc.. for money (again, not a knock, I really don't judge, honestly...I really do take a you do you approach,I've done the stripping thing in sl myself, lol). Women start just as many idiotic conversations with "hi", "hru", "hot av"... and the intentions of at some point getting that dude to whip out his dangly for them...even if it's just in an employment capacity.

Call a damn spade a spade for crying out loud. Men, all men, get a very bad rap in sl, because some of them behave like cavemen. But when women behave in the same manner...we don't all get a bad rap, in fact, even they don't get a bad rap most of the time (unlike rl where women judge other women far more harshly). If it's okay for females to be as open with their sexuality as they want, to seek out sexual (or not) gratification in whatever way(s) they want...the same needs to be true for men, no qualifiers.

Oh, some females don't want to be looked down upon for it, they don't want to be judged as ...insert whatever word you want here...   but they're perfectly fine labeling all men as stalkers, as people just looking to score, as every single conversation they've ever had with any male as him simply wanting to get in her pants...and any number of other things females say. That's such a friggen double standard.

OP is right, sl isn't as welcoming to males as it is females, because females stick together. Someone calls a female a hoe for seeking out her own sexual (or not) gratification in whatever ways she deems it...females jump on that poor bastard, they protect all females in that bubble. A few males make the wrong impression, and we label them all as impolite, uneducated man whores. Wtf kind of logic is this?  That's not feminism sticking up for the chicas shaking their maracas for every mariachi in the village, while condemning those mariachis for assuming those maracas aren't all they want to shake, btw....it's a double standard ;)

My experiences, others experiences, they're all pretty anecdotal when it comes to making assumptions about what one gender is "really here for". They're not anecdotal when you look at how one gender is treated versus another though (which is what I was referring to way back earlier in the thread). Men really aren't catered to in sl as much as women, and men are most certainly treated far worse than most women. Part of that, again, is sheer numbers, and part of it is the whole double standard we don't want in rl, but seem perfectly fine having here in sl.

Not all men who dance with you, have a conversation, go to clubs, dare to say "hI" want a look at your (or any female's) goods- regardless of your personal experiences. Not all women who dance for money, go to clubs, enjoy a conversation with you, dare to say "hi" want to ride your flight stick, regardless of your personal experiences. But all PEOPLE, regardless of gender, should be catered to, and treated, the same. That's just not quite the sl we have today.  We're getting better, but, we're definitely by far and large a female av dominated virtual world.

I'm still hoping it was about me being Scylla's alt, because (of long long story, ancient history), that's just too funny.

What would i want? Well, contrary to the believe that men want only sex, i am not one of them (neither is any of my male friends .. we all gladly skip that part). I would rather have a little bit more action, in my case in some roleplay setting maybe like skyrim, without all the mainstream bdsm stuff involved but something more gritty and not so lovey dovey. I would also like more sophisticated clubs where people dress up and not down when they enter. It is said that men need a reason to be interested to do. There is very little reason in SL if you take the SLex stuff out *grins*

I am probably not the best to ask because i am having a good life in SL and am not really seeking. The only thing i miss is some roleplay at the side.

Debates are fine. This ain't one. Even though one guy wanted to throw out a debate term, but sadly used it incorrectly. :(

Question-When you say “roleplay,” do you mean sex, or actually creating characters and making a storyline, etc?

Well, its all that and more.  If a female asserts that a male has an improper thought, then as you say: "females jump on that poor bastard."

He doesn't have to do it, or think it.  He just has to be accused.

Well, its all that and more.  The forums are roaming with people probing, provoking, seeking to elicit responses that can be twisted into accusations using the process described in my earlier post.
