I just moved from my AVI made in 2005 to a mesh avi, which is so problematic.  The one issue I'm focused on now is that I am wanting to make this new mesh avi look 50-something.  I'm clueless about all of this, a friend who is really good at all this put a new mesh avi together for me.  But it still looks 20-something.  I want it to look 50-something.  I'm almost believing that mesh avi's can't look older than 30 now.  Can't find a skin that is realistic 50-something.  Can't find a shape that is right.  Is SL really anit-older men?  Any help appreciated.

Did you check Session Skins by Angie Manners? Just one example of her creations:

[ session ] Dante for Lelutka

One of the M-alts wears a skin by Aeros:

M-Alt #1 - 'nother Look

You can also try to touch up your current look with a couple of appliers by Izzie Button. She has various appliers to add blemishes and such to body and face. It might tone down the younger look of your new skin.

Birth has at least one skin for older men, for Catwa or Aesthetic only;

I used this one myself for a while, and really like the detail, but my girlfriend said it made me look like a grumpy old man.

Nivaro has two: Sagat for Aesthetic only, and Odin for Catwa only:

One of these two stores (I forget which) used to have another that looked just like Bruce Willis, but it looks like that one is no longer available.

Yeah, with the help and suggestions you get here you should be able to put together a 50-something male avatar. Now if you were looking for a good quality older woman skin... ha! good luck! :::grumbles:::

I am wondering if the only way is to use a male head applier without brows and add thinner, more feminine eyebrows and makeup.... The stubble could be problematic unless that was intentional...

That could/might work. And ha! about the stubble. :)  Yeah, maybe there would be a need for mesh stray hairs, like men's beards only single wild hairs out of nowhere attachments.

This is me in Session's Dante on LeLutka's Guy head.

There are some good weathered skins out there.  What I have trouble finding is some good grey body hair.  Oh sure, there is plenty for hair with black and white HUDs but grey chest hair is not happening.

In all honesty, I have not looked all that hard either.  I am sure with BoM options there is a lot more I could do and will be able to do once more BoM items are made.

Anyway ...

The October round of WLRP had a male aging applier from Flaws for Catwa and Lelutka heads. It had the options to do the full face or just the forehead and eyes so you could use it on your favorite skin.

I use the Izzie's age appliers whenever I want to make Skell look older. Together with some grey-streaked hair and a salt-and-pepper facial hair it does the job for me. From left to right below: black hair with the skin clean-shaven, then with added greying facial hair, then finally with age lines and greying hair/facial hair. The same youthful skin is used throughout. A clickable (for more detail) close-up shot can be found here.

The other side of it will be finding the right mesh head and playing with your shape. I think there are more men’s mesh heads that can adapt well to an older look...things like a bit of droop to the outer eye or eyebrow, thinning the lips a little,  sinking cheeks a bit and playing with jawline/jowls (if the head reacts to those sliders) can all make a difference to the perceived age of an avatar.

Even the 'older' half of the image?

(snip for space saving)

I've clearly looked after myself, then, if he looks 30. My facial lines are around that stage (and even less in places).

That would be a rough-looking 30 after years of boozing, drugging, and constant sunbathing. (Looking at a certain Hollywood actress.)

Altamura has one full-body mesh avatar called Marcus, that comes in two different ages: middle-aged, and old. Here is what he looks like:

I blogged about him here when he was on sale (he's full-priced now): https://ryanschultz.com/2019/03/09/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-get-the-altamura-marcus-full-body-male-mesh-avatar-for-only-l343/

'Is SL really anit-older men?'  IMO yes, SL is still Barbie's & Ken's / supermodels.. samey. To me, the skins pictured above, none of them look much over 50, if that. 50 isn't a mature age anymore since on average we're all living longer, and progressively healthier lives. The Dante skin on the avatar screenshot, I know a guy who looks a lot like that and he's 46!   Majority of younger guy skins in SL look androgynous at best. 😏
