hi, I would like to buy a Sim directly from Linden Lab. What are the costs and are you paying attention?

You should probably also consider taking Lindal Kidd's free class on owning and managing land, which she offers every Saturday noon at Caledon Oxbridge University in world.  That will give you most of the information you are asking for.  

Buying land and paying the continuing land fees are separate matters.  A land purchase -- whether you buy from LL or another resident -- is a one-time cost.  Beyond that, all SL landowners pay monthly land fees on their total land holdings in SL.  If you are a Premium member, the land fee waiver that you get as a benefit of membership is subtracted from your monthly fees for property on the Mainland estate.  The waiver does not apply to land that you have in a private estate or on land that you rent anywhere.
