Can I get rid of private land without selling it?

I bought a sim a few years ago to help a friend out. Long story short, almost all of the original tenants have left, i have a 1/4 sim open, and am having trouble making tier without paying. Is it possible to just 'abandon' a sim, because there's no way I'm going to find a buyer without traffic in world being so low. I can't find anything on the website other than selling/transferring. Help!

Let your remaining tenants know that you are leaving, so it's time to pick up all their stuff.  Then stop paying your monthly land fees. Within a day or so after your next fee payment comes due, Linden Lab will take the region off line.

There ARE still folks looking for regions. Just saying :D. A few hundred dollars in your pocket is better than nothing (in my book anyway) :D.

Adds placed in in the forums for sims have "SALE" notices pretty often and pretty quickly sometimes.
