I see that PC tech babble and it just zones me out.......

I’m a computer nerd so I live for this stuff

i guess a way to bench it would be that the minimum requirements back then wouldn’t be able to even run Windows 7, let alone Windows 10, not doing anything on it, just displaying the desktop would be impossible.

The radeon 8500 is old enough to visit A rated spaces here now.

As for how fast tech was moving, I have my GPU from 2004 still, a radeon 9250. And I was a broke dumb kid who got it for Christmas, this was a very entry level low end gpu, and this card completely wiped the floor with 2001’s high end stuff with its “amazing” 128mb of vram.

I love that little banner ad “SecondLife Mobile?” Because yeah, I’m sure our Cingular Nokias with green backlit monochrome displays were gonna enter a virtual world.

I could imagine going back in time “so did we ever get SecondLife on our phones?”

Well, our phones are now incredibly powerful mobile computers that outperform even the highest end workstations of your time.

”Incredible, surely there must be SecondLife for Mobile on it if the game is still around?”

This phone has enough storage space to hold 2.1 million high resolution pictures of cats and display them in 3840x2160 resolution.

”SecondLife. Phone.”

Theres a buggy version that only works on some phones and nobody uses it because it performs terribly and costs money.

I know when I joined in 07,  I was running a barton core 2.03ghz single core, 256mb ram and a 64mb mx440 nvidia card,  I used that until late 2009 when I started getting "upgrades" from hand me downs, so that system went away,  ended up with a 775 lga e7400 with 8gb ram and a 8800 gts 640mb video card.    then now I have this monster that lol, will be ages before it gets another upgrade

So you’re still rocking a c2d and 8800 GTS? I admire the dedication

I can’t play anymore because my one functioning computer at the moment is a Thinkpad from 2006 with a Mobile core duo t2400 and 3gb of ram with integrated intel 950gm

But all the linux 32 bit viewers are broken so I gotta install Windows 7 or something today to get it functional again

So these Stiletto Moody shoes are unobtanium now?????

I might have a pair in the recesses of my inventory you can have. 😃 They came with attached feet that you’d have to tint to match to your skin color. And they were around L$2000! You can buy a mesh body for what a single pair of SM shoes cost back then. What a racket!

The things I think LL should take away from this and consider once more are the following

1. Try and revive the excitement that they put into the website back then but modernised for today, back then the website looked so sparky. It made second life sound exciting and fun and a place to hang out online and achieve almost anything. You look at the website now its "Have an adventure", "Explore", "Business" with some drab photos that don't exactly excite or wow. Looking at the website back then its filled with avatars having fun, people creating neat and nifty things, avatars displayed on the front page being recognised for their works and contributions to SL. They need to make the website more exciting for when people first visit.

2.  A small thing, the SL trailer. You watch most trailers now and its focusing on the shopping and the "omg shoes" aspects of SL and doesn't really excite you all that much. They need a vibrant trailer created by a talented machinima creator that shows all of the different kinds of things you can do in SL from shopping to creating, hanging, chatting, exploring, places in world such as the cyber cities, clubs, hangouts etc etc. And put that on the front page as well as using it for advertising purposes on youtube and other sites. There was a furry avatar, maybe a year ago, that created a DOPE second life trailer which would be perfect for this.

3. A better events list and destinations guide that is actually updated with ACTUAL things to do in world. One that isn't filled with old sims that no longer exist or hourly spams for fake modelling jobs that don't actually exist. And then put that on the front page somehow. Half of the stuff you can do in SL you can't see until you create an account and log in.

4. A dedicated developers blog. God knows that was a awesome thing back then and needs to make a return. A weekly blog where the developers of SL can update us on whats happening in the development cycles of SL or to discuss upcoming projects and ideas or just for them to post some musings on what life is like as a developer for Second Life. Give us more of a look behind the curtain and help the developers to stay in contact with us regular folk. It would also give a good impression that the developers are fairly active (we already know they are) when  newbies come to the site.

5. Bringing back that monthly pack of fun stuff for avatars to upload and use in SL. Textures, sounds, scripts, animations etc etc. You could have....gah whats her name....blogger that joined the linden team. Strawberry?. But, her and her team could curate it each month and perhaps even theme it. Could be a fun premium perk?.

6. Not inspired by the above but purely for kicks : Merch. The SL logo, re designed and themed so you have all kinds of different variations of the logos fitting different themes such as cyber, goth, furry, anime, normal etc. Or....perhaps im just waffling by this point xD. I would wear one though...as it says in a image further up VIVA LA EVOLUTION, VIVA LE SECOND LIFE!

I'm still too young of an avatar for a lot of things posted, in the OP or Lindal's list, as Seicher didn't come into being until 2009. You guys are OLD! :D

But, hey! Stiletto Moody's! I was an addict. Very expensive but they were very nice. Whoever said "racket" was correct, too. But, the $$$$ in inventory I had. I nearly cried when I finally deleted 98% of them as they are now useless. Yeah, yeah, I have a couple of mesh heads, too. :p (I waited a long time because for the first head I wanted to be able to moosh it up so it looked pretty similar to system Seicher, and the early versions didn't come close. That wasn't an issue for the current iteration.)
