Has any one gone back to visit their very first home is sl be it linden or other and why???

I from time to time will go to visit my very first home in sl.  A premium Tahoe theme. Seeing the changes over the years. Yet in a sacred way still the same . Has anyone else taken a trip in second life to visit their first abode and how was the experience?

I can't remember where we were! Though it was a rental and not on the mainland so it might not exist anymore. I don't think I ever looked at the map back then. I did revisit our first Linden home though (I unzombified an old alt for some reason and she had her home set to there). We were so end of the queue and it was just as bad as I remember. I have lived in much nicer older style Linden homes since.

No have never been back to my first home which was one of those Linden homes that you got when you signed up I can't even remember where it was I do remember it being nice then i featured out and found me some land on water.

I've gone back several times. My first home was mainland I bought, because the land bug bit me right away, and wanting to create forests, gardens, lakes and rivers. I love terraforming!

Since the time it was my place, it's changed with new ownership, there's a farm there now in my spot, but it still has the same feel I remember.That first place I lived on also created a need for the land group I still use for everything 13 years later with the region name Nitida. It has stayed occupied over the years with loyal residents, only a few slices of abandoned last I looked, which wasn't long ago, because every time I want to buy some mainland, I check there first.. Never anything

Never had an old Linden home more than a few days, they really weren't my thing. Bellisseria, now that's a different story!

I didn't have a home until I had been in SL for about 5 years, although I rented shops a little earlier than that. I've never been one to spend a lot of time indoors, and I always had access to group-owned land for building stuff, so land ownership didn't seem all that important. Sometime in 2012, though, a close friend offered me a tiny parcel rent free and suggested that I should put up a skybox as a hideaway.  A couple of years later, she wanted to downsize and offered to sell me the whole region. I took a deep breath and did it.  I have a somewhat larger skybox now and have used the center of the region as a park.  My friend, ironically, now lives in a skybox at about the same place where she offered me space years ago.

I should take a look at the coordinates to see what's there now. A friend owned land, his premium 512, and expanded in the direction of the endless granite slopes. At some point I came across the old LM to our first house (close RL friend, he's an architect, I sew, he did the building, I decorated cause otherwise he had a tendency to not get around to it and leave most of it empty ) and found to my amazement that it was on sort of grass!! And that if he'd expanded in the other direction, we'd have been on grass instead of that ugly ugly endless granite slope. Grass!! We could have had grass!!

The first house was a large cylinder, semi-transparent from the inside, like modern glass. It had a teleport system - no room or prims for stairs - which I struggled to get it to work so I quickly learned to sit TP from room to room. Now that I know more about building, I realise how clever that single hollow giant prim cylinder was for a base build - a single prim for all the walls above the ground floor.

Then he got more land, and built a Roman temple. The sunset playing off it was one of my favourite bits of SL, especially with how often it came around. It was all the more magic because I had no idea I could change the time of day .

Then he took the cylinder house down to build a Roman villa and I set up a Victorian-era base camp in front of the temple with velvet living room set, canopied bed, fancy tents and camel. One of the chairs ended up in the sky and we couldn't find it for ages.

Because of him, my SL has always been both DIY and appreciating the tricks and talents in other people's work. I'm very grateful for this. I wouldn't have stayed a decade otherwise.

For a while the villa was on land where a great many Spanish men lived previously. Sometimes one of them would log in after a time away and not understand what was going on. When this happened, they tended to be inebriated (perhaps the sober ones TPed elsewhere quickly?) which led to many strange and unsuccessful attempts to talk across a language divide.

It was all a great adventure

I don't recall where the very, very first place I lived was. When I came to SL, it was with a few friends, and we already had a couple other friends who'd arrived ahead of us. We all lived together at first till we settled in and each found places of our own.

My first place that was just for me was one of the old Linden homes. I wish I could remember what region it was in, but I can't, so there's no way to revisit it. I don't mind, since I've been a nomad from the start and have lived in a bazillion homes over the years, all over the grid. From Forgotten City to Commune Utopia to Fruit Islands to Bay City to the Snowlands to Zindra, to ...well,  it is a very, very long list, and I don't get too attached to any of them! (Which may be why I never understand someone making a big deal over which Bellisseria region one winds up in; another one will come along, after all!)

For my original Linden Home:

I think it was one of the Quad homes; one of those with the courtyard and a fireplace and track lights on the ceiling. I had a bedroom and kitchen and living room but no bathroom. That annoyed me from the start. I think that was what actually started me down the path of building, as basic as that was at the time. While I had it set up as a home I never really used it as one. Eventually I moved into a rental on a private region (Giano). Once I moved there I used my Quad as a photo studio. I had a wall of photo frames set up and a small photo studio that I would visit to update my profile pic. I moved around several times to get a different style and decorate but again, rarely used them as homes. Just a place to rez or change before I went somewhere else. Once I moved onto private regions, and after that Mainland, I never went back to that particular Linden Home. Until the new Linden Homes were released of course.

 

For my first non-Linden Home:

My first ever house was in Giano, a private region created I think for role play or semi-role play. The region is still there but the first house I ever paid rent on isn't there anymore. The styles have changed and the area doesn't look like I remember it. It's a bit of a shame but in saying that the old house then was prim and several hundred LI. Knowing what I know now regarding sim (region) building it makes sense to replace old for new and sell the saved LI to residents or add to extra decor. The house was also HUGE! Far bigger than I really needed with multiple bedrooms and just far too much space. But I met one of my SL "sisters" there (and we still talk to this day); she was my neighbour at the time. My Giano home was where I learned to RP in SL. I had my first prim baby there. I had a lot of fun. It all seemed so innocent now. I have been back but now I know its not the same I don't see the point of going back again. I still have the photos somewhere though!

 

For my first (Gen 2) Linden Home :

I was lucky enough to stumble into the forums just before the original homes were rolled out. As such I managed to snag one in Stine in the first release. I was there for 3 months. It was set on a hill at the top of a row of steps. There was such an excitement that felt different (at least to me) than it has since; people were wandering the street and just mingling in ways I'd never experienced since joining SL. I did enjoy my time there. But as more regions were being built I felt restless and wanted a change. Thus my foray into house-hopping began. I actually went back to the original house just today because of this topic and it's good to see it's currently occupied and in use. I did like the place while I was there; Riley was "born" there! But I don't feel the need to go back anymore. I am happy with the house I have now.

I've lost count of the amount of regions I've owned and houses or land I have rented both on Mainland and private regions. I'm happy to sit here a while and enjoy it.

Debi never really had a home in SL. She mostly rezzed inworld and flew up high to change clothing and then she went exploring from there. Years later, circa 2008, after I came back from my self-imposed exile to World of Warcraft, I bought land the first week of Blush's slife in Noether. That mainland region has been ever changing over the years. It actually makes me sad to return there now as I remember the days when between my partner's land and mine we owned nearly 80% of the region. Those were glorious days! Being in Slove might have something to do with my memories though.

I've never been back to my very first SL home - a rental on one of Prok's properties.  However, my second home was when I moved in with my SL interest at the time, and it was on the region right next to the Forum Cartel Hangout.  So, I've definitely seen that property go through many changes over the years.

I have returned a few times to the area of my first Houseboat in Bellisseria.  I held on to that one until the Squishy Pickle was released.

I can't remember my first home in SL. For one reason or another, I moved around a lot between 2008-2012, never staying in one place for too long. But also, I make it a personal rule not to visit or check out old rentals/homes that I may remember. Although after only becoming a premium member last year, I do find myself opening the map to see what's become of plots I may have owned/sold. It's oddly saddening if/when I see them reduced to nothing but abandoned land, and I can't figure out exactly why. 

With that said, I didn't have a LH until Bellisseria. I'd often make the trip in a yacht to Salt Breeze or Whitecap, and was there when the gates opened. Settled and held onto a houseboat, until Squishy Pickle was released. I remember one or two I abandoned in the SW, along with my old Houseboat in the NW--just because the names are so catchy. But again, I make it a rule to not go snooping...only ocassionally passing them if I'm in the area.

A month or two after arriving in SL in April of 2008, I stumbled across a couple who owned a private full-region island and wanted help with building and scripting. They offered me a small corner of the island for my own use. It was there, while living on the beach, that I built this...

I just pulled a copy of it out of my purse and rezzed it at Aldura Furry Sandbox. Because I used the lighthouse as my home, and because this is SL, I used a teleporter to get between floors rather than the usual spiral staircase. There is a main room on the ground level, with fireplace (I can't remember how many prototypes ended up on the ocean floor at (0,0,0) while I learned how to edit things), two bedrooms, and a dance floor at the top. The dance floor offers a menu of textures on touch, allowing the house to adapt to the occasion.

The light beams rotate and have pose balls on them. There's a couple's pose on one beam, a single pose on the other. Sitting on them was a wonderful way to get a revolving view of the island.

 

After a year or so on that island, I moved to a quarter homestead island with my SL-ex, where I built this...

 

I have been a Nomad here for nearly five years. None of the regions on which I lived for my first seven years here still exist, so I can't go "home" again, I can only pull houses out of my purse and remember.

yeah. Every now and then I TP over there. I actually bought the spot back once, but the place was too blighted so I left soon after.

The Gazebo behind it has been there since 2009, I briefly knew that guy but he also hasn't logged in since 2009...

I originally left this spot during the 'greenlanes' controversy. The road back there was unpaved. This was a whole part of SL with unpaved roads - many of us bought land in places for that very reason. Then the moles paved it. The mole who paved this spot originally put the road a few meter above it's current spot, and a steep cliff on that gap between the plot and the land - I was unable to terraform to match, and disliked the road, so left... Also made a bit of a fool out of myself in complaining about that mole...

But about a year after I left another mole came through and fixed the road...

Valuable life lesson there: my cause may have been vindicated but my approach to resolving it was all wrong causing me to loose out on my chance at redress.

Like you, Maddy, I have made a decent collection of houses and other buildings that are now languishing in my inventory.  Many were made for other people or for the group that I supported for many years.  Few were buildings that I ever "lived" in.  This one, for example, dominates one chunk of my region now, but I hardly ever go inside.  It's all for show.  What good's a walled enclave if you don't have a villa in it?

My first home was with some friends on a beach waterfront parcel at Prok's Ravenglass Realm.  It's odd but I haven't been back there at all since then though I do sometimes return to other places I have lived.  I think the difference is that the first place wasn't my build so it didn't feel like my home.  After that, for a long time I was quite nomadic and just stayed at various hangout places.  So I more often visit old haunts than dwellings if that makes any sense.  I do find it interesting to see what has changed or stayed the same and it feels good to retrace my past occasionally.

Like others I still have saved builds in my inventory from the past places I rented or owned.  Sometimes I pull these out to take a look at again for nostalgia.

   A long time ago I lived on Conway 4. It was a region rented by a friend who gave me control of it for the last month of his lease. He was a UK guy going on holiday. I didn't do nearly as much with it as I could have. I did learn a lot about terraforming there.

   And as with many things in SL, it's long gone now.

my first land on my own account, was a 512m on Hamnida. I got a offer from my neighbour to buy it from me for 10,000L so I sold it to them

i then got a 512m parcel in Wallaby for 5000L.  Then my Wallaby neighbour wanted my parcel to add to theirs as well. 8,000L. I was rich! Found another 512m parcel in Cave Dweller for 4,,000L. Cave Dweller then deteriorated quite quickly, because adfarming and parcel-cutting.  So i was there for quite a long time, as was quite interesting to see how outrageous other people got to get me to buy the view. Which I never, not even

then a RL media company which owned most of Salporin next door started buying up the view along the roadside in Cavedweller (not all of it because extortion pricing). They offered to buy my parcel for 5000L. I said no as I wanted to stay there, because I was into zoo-building by then.  As the RL media company started to accumulate more land in Cavedweller then I began to get offers from parcel cutters to buy my parcel. One rather notorious person offered me 20,000l. I said no because I knew what they were intending to do. I don't mind to get money but not that way

the son of the media company owner was my age and he got into zoo-building as well. Was probably the most creative time for me in SL  After a time I was surrounded on all sides by the media company as his dad kept expanding. So I sold it to them for the 5000L he originally offered, and bought a parcel in Star Scythe 512m up the hill for 1250L, as the land-cutting/ad-farming had by then depressed the land market

then my RL situation changed (I had to go and get a job, because my then RL maid and chauffeur/treasurer instigated a revolution and my days as live-in royalty were over. Was quite devastating to be betrayed by what I had assumed were my life-long ever so devoted servants)

so I made my Star Scythe into a 6 booth changing rooms for people to use.  Sit the seat, which whizzed up into the sky, rezzed a booth/room with built in posestand around the avatar, postioned over a 16m parcel rez plate - one 16m for each booth.  The booth de-rezzed when the person left.  3-prim pink nd blue boxes popping in and out of the sky 

was quite popular back in those days, 3000-4000 dwell on weekdays. 5000-8000 on weekends, more on holidays. On some days, USA evening time, there would be queues of people waiting at the rez station for a booth. I ended having to put in a waiting time limit (send people home) as could get quite crowded at the rez station, and was not good to have a little 512m using up lots of region server resources, which affected my neighbours quite badly some days before I put in the wait time limit. I never time-limited the booths. Once a person was in a booth they could use it for as long as they wanted 

i do go back sometimes and look at all these areas. I quite like reminiscing

Yes! I still have my first land in Refugio. It's on the side of the hill even though waterfront which is why I managed to get it because no one wanted to be on a rock face. It was above a placed called Waterfall Canyon where Jauani Wu had a house and had named it that, I believe, and I kept the name. (I should mention that the Lindens used to have a program in the beginning called "First Land" when they began selling land with prims tied to square meters. When you made a new account, you were eligible for that First Land -- oldbies were not. You couldn't have contributed to a group with your tier or it wouldn't work. So naturally it got gamed and people made lots of alts to snag it. The Lindens used to have a limit of 5 accounts per person. I don't know if they still have that. They got rid of First Land I believe by 2007).

 I remember an oldbie on that sim who had snagged a bunch of first lands on different alts and who had a huge TV business tried to force me to re-sell and tried to block other first lands for sale on that sim but eventually a friend and I waited that out and kept ARing it and that person is gone. Today, that land has a coast guard renting the larger parcel from me to which it was linked, and there is a plaza and some homes and apartments for rent there.

In Wakeley (now merged to a marketplace) is another first land I got on earlier account when I was a newbie, where I had a bad experience when I abandoned it by accident and it fell into 16m squares (which is what happened in the bad old days when land was abandoned, because the Lindens thought this would be a great way for people to pick up just a little extra prim land, although it proved the seedbed for the long siege of the Mainland by ad farms). Hence, my attempt on another account to get it again on another sim -- and then much later, what I had originally had as first land and got grabbed by flippers was eventually for sale again and I got it.

I'm proud I managed to hang on to my first land through thick and thin. And I'm also proud to have provided inexpensive rentals for people to have as their first homes, so they get used to land and buy their own land. The more buyers and owners who are happy, the better the Mainland for all of us, including for rentals.

PS Apropo of another thread, there's a GTFO here and that's fine. it's a warehouse and airport for a rescue mission RP and that's great. I needed someone to rent a large rocky bluff that few wanted to rent and tackle, and they did, and have for years. I do have to point out that the particular residence next to it seldom rents merely because not everybody wants to live next to a warehouse, no matter how "pretty". In fact, I have an idea now, and I'll turn that townhouse around to face out to sea in another direction : )

My first home was in Gembong in 2008.   Gembong changed names sometime after I left, sold from a less than attentive landlord :D.   My skybox floated in the air above a shopping area where I was a model. Free rent was my pay. The modeling was pretty much camping with clothes and that was fine too. 

 

Good memories but no way to go back.

My first home was the branch of a big tree on a Tiny Empires groups land.  They even put a sign in front of the tree saying "pixies tree".  That land hasn't been around for a long long time.  I still live off and on with a second life brother that I acquired in that group

My very first home was a mini micro tiny apartment, you could just rezz a sofa, a bed and a fireplace. But I loved it, because I was just starting in SL, and there was a nice sense of community in that area. But the sim was closed. Then I rented a sky apartment in Schirra, which also ended up closing. I had so many Linden homes when they started, that I lost track, But I did visit again my first home in Belli. I let it go because I just couldnt feel it like mine, due to a massive rock wall in the back. The person who owns it has made a lovely work,and I that made me happy, knowing the home has a better owner now. So yes, it was something positive for me

Do you know which one I miss? My old Tahoe one, silly, but I loved it. Might end up going for it some day... (knowing it would take me forever to get it back  )

I could not go back - and never wished to do - and never did.

My first home back in 2007 was on land I "bought" from Anshe Chung
.. not realising that the tier fee monthly would soon be more than the price I had payed.

I managed to get cheap a seashore lot because it was on the side of a hill - difficult to build on.
I put a house there I bought - half sticking it into the hillside - and enjoyed the view.

I had the shore to myself though for the land between me and the sea had been bought by a man who was never there
.... just hoping the price would rise

I must say that for 2007 the landscapes that Anshe Chung and her people created were just great! fell in love with the "Silvercoast" at first sight ... my preference for seashore-regions has lasted till today!

I first came to Second Life because the university I was studying with (as a mature student) had an island here. The students got free university apartments with a social area in the middle. Its gone now and I wouldn't want to go back anyway as it was inhabited mostly by a***oles and griefers. This was back in 2007, so a distant memory now and I used a different account then which I deleted before coming back with my present account. I have photos of most of my homes with this account and I had a little spot on the mainland which I do still go back to look at from time to time because it evokes fond memories.
