Recreating My Avatars

Hi!

Coming in from IMVU, and I'm looking for some help in recreating a couple of my avatars that I made over there, want to bring here, and would like to get something here that'll get me a similar look to what I've created over there. But I don't know what search terms to use in the marketplace or even if what I want is in the marketplace. Or if I would need to commission someone to make it for me.

Would anyone here be so nice as to lend a new player a helping hand?

Searching items at the marketplace can be annoying, because 10 year old stuff will appear right next to new mesh items. But its you who has to dig through, even if its painful.
I doubt, anyone will do the work and search all the 16 items for you. Especially for the fact, that we dont know, if you still use the system avatar you got when you signed up, or if you already turned your body into mesh? If yes, what body? Which creator, which model? There is a huge variety out there and no way for us to tell you exactly where to find exactly what you need.

First, go to the marketplace and search for the term"medieval", for example.
You will find around 80K items.
For clothes, narrow it down on the left by selecting "Apparel", then "Women", and so on. Set the amount of "items per page" to 96, and then keep scrolling and selecting the things attracting your attention.
Always try demos, and only buy it, if you are satisfied.

Lots to learn, preferably before you start putting money in.

In SL there is a "system body" (also known as "classic"). You'll have that no matter what. It's popular in SL to make the system body transparent and wear an object on top known as a "mesh body". There are several brands, each with their own strengths and shortcomings. For many, a mesh body has become the default approach. Your first avatar seems to be covered up though, so unless you're going to spend much time undressed, a mesh body is just extra expense and extra data for your computer to render. Others will urge you to get a mesh body; I'm putting a word in for the merits of not bothering with one.

The market has become very fragmented because of all of these different bodies. If you want very specific clothing, it might be helpful to search out stores who make the kinds of things you're after and see which bodies they support. ALWAYS DEMO everything and examine it carefully.

Your second avatar looks to be a furry. Utilizator's Kemono body is very popular amongst furries and anime, with a lot of community support for mods. Without a full picture of your avatar though, it's hard to guess if a Kemono body would be useful to you for that. I suspect that your preferences in clothing will decide that one for you.

Don't rely just on Marketplace to find stores. Use inworld search for suitable stores, groups and RP environments, then ask for recommendations. You could also try asking here in the forums, but it will help to be more specific in your thread title. With a general title, you're more like to get views from people who have more generalist knowledge and what you need is specific. Of the top of my head, some stores to try inworld are Tamiron Forge, The White Armory, Silvan Moon and Cog & Fleur. I don't know if any of them are quite right, but it's a start. And remember, ALWAYS DEMO

Sorry about not being so specific. I guess I thought I was but I wasn't.

Yeah I'm pretty new so all the things like mesh bodies and stuff and, well, 99.99% of everything is new to me. I'm definitely not used to teleporting all over the place to find stuff because in IMVU testing on things is easy on me since I just paper dolled everything - I don't even know about body types over there. I guess what I really want is for someone to help me narrow down search terms for things like hairstyles, as I don't know what exactly to call them, but if I did it might help me more.

As for things like bodies, I plan to get something for the male avatar, since I have a general idea of what I want his physique to look like, while the female avatar might not deviate too far from the default, as I don't plan on making her look like a runway model [which is fine - just not for her].

Anyways I included some pictures of my IMVU avatars - sorry if I didn't think to do that when I should've. Maybe it'll help me be more clear about what I'm getting at?
