Sandboxes open to the public are notorious for this type of behavior.  Likely very few people have not had this type of experience.  Like others mentioned before rezz a prim and sit on it if you suddenly have to go AFK.  No more pushing problem solved.  So far is them testing out the scripts well that's on the builder.  You have to be proactive at some point.

There are, by the way, private groups, at least t here used to be in the past, join for small fee to have access to a private sandbox.

Jerks are everywhere.  You have to learn to adapt and move on.

Well, at least it would save me the trouble of distributing them myself.

I swear I'm not making this up...when I was about 18, I was approached by a porn scout on the high street (I am nothing special in RL, trust me, but it wasn't my face he was looking at). I was so innocent, so repressed, so inexperienced and so, so green, that I genuinely didn't understand where he was going with the conversation. He told me he was a model scout and thought I had potential, I asked where his white stick was, and he started telling me about how much I could earn per week, that I would really appeal to the German market (I still don't know what this means; apologies, German readers, but I think you were insulted), that it could be just pictures if I wanted but I could always move into videos and live shows if I wanted to earn even more, and I STILL didn't understand what he was talking about. Eventually the poor guy (who, to be fair, was being extremely professional about the whole thing) had to spell it out for me. I turned bright red, spluttered something about not getting out of bed for less than £10,000 and legged it.

I did actually have a boyfriend at the time, so obviously I texted him and told him what had happened. He rang me immediately, demanding more details. I said, "Don't you want to know when I start?" He didn't think it was very funny.

And well you should be worried.  Before you know it, those pics will be peddled in every seedy back alley and men's room in SL.  The shame!

I tried the back alley. Her boobs were "too posh". So I'm consigning them to an art gallery near the Eiffel Tower...

I know. SL as a whole probably isn't the best place for him considering that everybody you would ever be talking to is a real person, not an NPC. It's also one of the most freeform place to create and build next to garry's mod and being the creative sort I doubt I could convince him to leave. I've known him since elementary and he always leaves the socializing up to me or one of our other friends while he works on the creative or technical side. Another friend in our group that has some experience in marketing sells the things he makes for him.

That's great how you and your friends are able to help your autistic friend with his limitations. I hope the benefits of creativity outweighs the social difficulties or griefers he may encounter in a sandbox. I wonder though if one of the regions in SL dealing with people experiencing various types of emotional/mental disabilities might have a space for building. Most I knew in the past closed, but there might be a few left -- I'll check around. But perhaps this is just, fingers crossed, a temporary phase with griefers & curious 'touchers of prims', and it will calm down soon.

I couldn't find a back alley, so I had to improvise. What you don't see in the picture is the couple who were standing on the street corner when I arrived. Our chat started out rough, as they informed me the car was not for sale. I told them I was stealing it. The fella seemed angered by that, and I wondered if I'd inadvertently sat in his car. I hadn't. It's probably a prop for use by Eiffel group members. Meanwhile, the woman accused me of being first cute, then adorable. I had to stab her multiple times before she conceded that I am actually the devil.

After a bit of back and forth with the fella, he calmed down and decided that we should steal the Mona Lisa, instead of the car. I'd just read about a potential second Mona Lisa being rediscovered in a Swiss bank vault, and I hatched a sort of reverse theft idea. We would use his pretty girlfriend as the model for endless copies of the Mona Lisa we'd commission from those speedy street artists who work wonders with spray cans on canvas. We would sneak the fakes into the Louvre until they had no more room, forcing them to hold a Mona Lisa garage sale, during which they'd accidentally set out the original. We'd scoop it up for $5.

During all of this, the woman was berating us for using her as a pawn in our scheme. She went on a rant about how her boyfriend was such a wuss that he wouldn't go on a zip line ride with her. She had to bring him back down in the elevator and would never forgive him for it.

What started out as a quick search for a place to stage the shot turned into a very enjoyable bit of nonsense RP.

And this, once again, is why I love SL.

Oh, and because I wasn't able to frame the shot to show the manila envelope up-close, here it is...

Though I'm a natural introvert, the interruptions I endure while creating in public (RL or SL) are worth it if I can inspire even one person to attempt the joyous act of creation.

This is my favorite part, and precisely what drives me to build in sandboxes exclusively :D

Yikes.

Well, as our neoliberal masters might say, in the New Economy, one should be prepared to *cough* seize opportunities as they arise?

On, the other hand, I'm going to steal "not getting out of bed for less than £10,000." I'll put it to its first test tomorrow morning.

I can't believe the work you went to to stage that!  You're wonderful.  (If you guys missed it, here's a pointer)

Have you not seen Maddy's vandalism artistry on the vanity threads? She's especially adept at creatively "modifying" my pictures!

(And now, apparently, my boobs too!)

I was thinking that too...

Those of us with posh boobs know that it's all about tasteful elegance and moderation.

Not for us, the vulgar conspicuous consump ostentation of the nouveau riche boob!

Upset at people peeking at your projects at a public sandbox, LOL. And upset at people bumping you in a game... your friend reminds me of those people who cry "omg hacker ban this stupid n00b" in MMOs when they get PK'd.

Maybe tell your friend to rent his own place or buy his own land if he wants privacy? This is like complaining people have no right to sit within 5ft of you in a park. If you're too cheap to own a private place, you don't deserve the perks of privacy, common sense.

1. Sit on something while afk.

Maybe thats not the best advise for someone who gets already nervous when a friend has to deal with uninvited visitors.
At least you should have said: "sit on something unscripted while afk" ;)

I stole it from Linda Evangelista. Just looked it up, and apparently it's a misquotation; what she actually said was, "We have this expression, Christy and I: We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day", and she was making a joke about the supermodel craze at the time.

This is a very judgy thread! The OP is judging those who apparently wandered through their build; posters are responding by judging the OP, and yet other posters are judging the posters who are judging . . . etc.

This is called survival, not judging anything is tantamount to being comatose. We judge the foods we eat, the things we buy, we always judge others in some way or another. You cannot go five minutes without judging something and right now you who read this are judging me by projecting your own idea of what my feelings are based on my written words.

There is judgement and there is prejudice, the former is a necessary fact of life, the latter is a scrutinization, and both can be positive, negative, or somewhere in between. With the written word, that perceived positivity or negativity is derived by our own cultures, world-views, and experiences as we project the mood of the writer into what we are reading.

Then there are ideas; those are judged as well and also often misinterpreted based on the communication skill of the one trying to express them.

OH! And also IBL.

When you know what the person could have done, it pales in comparism to a little bump.

What if 100 plywood boxes was rezzed over the build and the AFK avatar? No way he could get his build out, unless it was linked in one piece.

Or have a cage rezzed around him. Or an object textured with something very ugly. Or the other avatar put on a female avatar, undress, pose next to him and send a picture to his partner - if he had one.
