Misplaced Object

Recommended Posts

So,  I was building a skybox water scene on my land.  I had the 4 panels of water perfectly setup, but needed to make an adjustment in their height.  I went to adjust the first panel by typing in the coordinates I wanted for Z and "POOF," the panel disappeared.  I assume I mis-typed a coordinate and the panel shot off to "who knows where."  The other three water panels adjusted perfectly.

Besides searching all over SL, is there a way I can just delete the misplaced object from existence?  It only counts as 1 land use item, but I might need that 1 allowance in the future.

Thanks!

There are two likely places to look for it.

First, fly up to 4096m and see if it's there.  If you use Firestorm, a quick way is to hover where the prim used to be, then type gth 4096 in local chat and hit Enter.

If it isn't there, check at z=0.  You may need to cam down under the land surface, or temporarily disable rendering of the land.  Use Advanced > Rendering Types > uncheck "surface patch".  If you don't have the Advanced menu on your top row of menus, hit CTRL+ALT+D to add it.

If you're using the Firestorm Viewer you can use Area Search and look for your objects.  If not, I'm inworld now if you'd like help looking for it.  Check your Lost and Found folder in inventory as well in case it landed there.  If it did then it won't still be rezzed.

I've been in SL almost 13 years and there's still so much I don't know!

It won't help you find this particular prim but for future use, whenever you rez a new prim, the first thing to do is change the name from Object to something more appropriate for your particular build, it makes it so much easier to find when you do what you (and thousands of us) just did. Area search can return a frightening number of "Objects" all over the place.

Thanks for the tips.  I looked around using the Advanced>Rendering Types and did not see anything above or below.  I also tried different coordinate with no luck.  At this point, I should just  wait and hope it shows up in my Lost and Found. A bit sad there is not a way to see everything that I have I placed, along with their coordinates.

If you typed the wrong number for the Z coordinate, the object is still over your land and won't be returned. It would be somewhere between 0 and 4096 meters altitude. If you're running Firestorm, on the menu go to Build->Pathfinding->Region Objects. A window will open which will show all of your objects and their distance from you. In this case you can assume the distance is close to the altitude of the object. Look for your water panel in the list.

This is probably a feature in the standard viewer, but I don't know how to get to it.

OK, not *all* of your objects. Things not of interest to pathfinding won't be shown, such as some phantom objects.

Found it!  It was at 4096, as suggested.  For some reason, I could not reach that height before.  This time I just teleported up to that height and there it was.  Thanks again for all the suggestions!
