Everyone is guessing... To actually be able to help you we need to know about your computer. Use the viewer's HELP->About... and copy-paste that information here. If the panels and menus are transparent too... you'll need to Google for how to collect your computer specs.

Version    10.0.17763 Build 17763
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    3.00 GB
Total Physical Memory
2.94 GB

From Internet spec pages: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

Your Windows OS is 2 years behind. Current version: 1903 build 18362. An update may help.

I cannot see where the specs say 32 or 64 bit OS. With 4GB memory and 2.9GB physical memory I would guess 32-bit. The limited memory is going to cause problems. Unfortunately, this unit can only handle 4GB. So... no fix there. If you upgrade to 64-bit OS you'll be able to use all of the installed 4GB.

Nor is there a version ID for the NVIDIA driver. I assume it too is out of date. I looked up the video for this model HP.

You can check the video version using the Device Manager... in Display Adapters -> Properties -> Driver (tab) will be the version number. The current driver is version 26.21.14.3086 or commonly referred to as 430.86. Updating this driver is the most likely change to help.

Also, make sure your laptop is using the NVIDIA chip. Some systems will go into power-save and turn off the graphics chip and use the CPU in its place. You can set a Second Life game-profile for the NVIDIA in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

The laptop is within the SL system minimum requirements. But, you are below the recommended.

I suspect the problem is caused by older versions of the software you running. If you are not comfortable updating Windows or Nvidia, you may have better luck running a viewer made for older hardware, Singularity or Cool VL Viewer. You can install them and try them as an easy attempt at a fix.

I think the reason it isn't working is because my computer is using directx 12 and it is messing with my games graphics so i have to go to the settings of the game and lower the directx so it works better. How do I change the settings in second life to use a lower directx
