Uploading images to the forum

Suddenly,  I keep getting the error that they exceed the size restriction, even when they are significantly smaller. I can upload anything up to about 2MB but anything bigger than that, I get the warning that they must not exceed 4.88MB, and it won't let me post.

This has been going on for at least a couple of days.

That 4.88MB attachment limit seems to be per post, not per image.
I've been bitten by that a few times too.

this is  why I never upload the image but post the link from Flickr

Upload as JPEG. Smaller than PNG. Compress harder if you have to.

I shouldn't have to compress an image that's already less than half the permitted size.

   If you're posting several pictures, you could just carpet-bomb the thread with one picture per post... Though I suspect that's somewhat frowned upon. I'd suggest either Flickr or imgbb to have the picture uploaded elsewhere and then embedded by link to the post (not sure how long imgbb uploads last, though - and there's a size limit there, too, but hey you don't need to sign up!).

It was just two pics, about 1.5MB each, but I had the same issue with one.

I have given up; I've got am imgur account anyway so I just used that instead.
