I want to release my premium membership to basic how do i release the land

Molly is quite correct.

However, if you own Mainland that is NOT a Linden Home, you also have the option to put it up for sale or auction it.  However, you can't downgrade to Basic until it sells (or you Abandon it).

You must sell or abandon ALL your Mainland, if you own more than one parcel.  If you have donated tier to a group, you must also remove that donation by going to the Group Info window, Land and $ tab.

to release your land:

1) stand on your land

2) viewer menu: World \ About Land \ General tab

3) click the Abandon Land button

Lindal is right.  I have a tendency to over-simplify answers to questions.  As Lindal correctly points out, a releasing land alternative to abandoning it (when the land is not a Linden Home) is to sell it
